Aren't there Gentex mirrors with 12 pins that are plug and play on the 2017? Or is the 2016 plug different??

I didn't look at the pins, but I have a 17 and the mirror I ordered was plug and play. I unplugged the mirror that came with the truck, loosened the screw on the mounting bracket, slid the old mirror off, slid the new mirror on, screwed the little screw in and then plugged in the plug. Took 1 circle for tor the compass to start working, and a mild headache to program the garage remote (the "learning" on the Gentex left a little to be desired). Minus the programming was maybe 5 minutes... programming was 20-30 minutes more for my garage door.

Has anyone found a way to wire the Homelink so it needs an ignition on to work?

I'm confused as to it working when ignition off - my OEM mirror does NOTHING until I turn on the ignition - no autodim lite, no compass. Why would the Homelink work with ignition off when nothing else does?

I can't answer that specifically cause I didn't bother looking at the wiring itself. What I can say is the compass is off on the new mirror until I turn the car on, but the garage buttons work just fine as well.

It is probably just a matter of moving the wiring to something that is not powered until the ignition is on. I know it is possible, as my Uncle has one in his Jeep that doesn't work unless he turns the vehicle on. I do not know anything about the model of his mirror though and if that makes any difference.

Here is one that I'm considering with a few more options than factory.

Did some research. It looks like home link will retain the programming without constant power. I'm going to cut the constant and wire it to the switched wire. Probably do it next Sunday.

I ordered this model number and it was not plug and play with the existing harness on my auto dim 3rd gen mirror. Might have been a fluke but have to return and will go with Bob who def says it's a 3rd gen plug and play.

Is it really worth the extra $80 for backlit buttons? Any opinions on this? Does anyone regret not getting the backlit buttons?

I got the backlit buttons. You'll regret not getting them. Have you tried Bob's mirrors? Don't remember an $80 difference with his goods.

@Istan , did you figure out how to do this? I want to order a Gentek mirror with Homelink as well, but only want the garage door opener to work with the ignition on.

Does anyone have any tips for programming? I'm having a difficult time getting it programmed. I'm thinking I'm not doing something in the correct order?
