Long story short, I added the URD 7th Injector kit to my '04 about 6 months ago because it was running pretty lean without it.

1 month later, I get a P0420 code and Toyota says my front catalytic converter is toast. I assumed it was probably on it's way out from before the 7th injector so got both cats replaced (aftermarket CARB approved Magnaflow cats because Toyota wanted $3600 for OEM ones)...2 weeks later my new cats are looking deep purple in color and the shop that installed them has told me that too much fuel is being dumped through them. This leads me to believe that the 7th injector is to blame.

I'm not keen on how to tune the 7th but I know it can be done. In the meantime though, I need to pass smog asap to get my truck registered so I'm wondering if I can just unplug the 7th injector while I figure out how to properly tune it. I'm afraid these new cats might be toast already so who knows if I'll pass, but I want to give it a shot.

My question is, to unplug (or deactivate) the 7th injector do I just need to unplug the computer module for it? I didn't do the install myself so I'm not 100% if that's all that needs to be done to "turn it off" for the time being.

Thanks in advance, and if anyone has any advice on how they tuned theirs, that'd be great as well.

Actually, I found a good link on a 4runner forum for tuning the 7th... so I just need to know how to safely/properly deactivate it in the meantime before I toast my cats again.

....and before anyone says "should've gone with a methanol kit instead", yes....now I know, lol.

Why not tune it? Running lean is not healthy either.

True, but at least back when I was running lean it would still pass smog and I could drive it carefully to keep from pinging. Seems no matter how I drive it now it wants to run too rich. I got a lead on someone local that should know how to tune it, so I'm hoping that will resolve the issue. In the meantime I think I'm going to try and unplug the URD module and see if that helps.

I should mention too that I've been monitoring my AFR numbers with my Torque app and OBDII plug in but I'm realizing now that without an actual AFR gauge, I'm not seeing my true numbers. According to my Torque app my numbers are okay but the condition of my cats since installing the 7th injector says otherwise.

The URD kit is based on boost. Just cap of the vacuum line feeding the unit and that's all. Nothing else to worry in my opinion. If the unit is not seeing boost, its not telling the injector to pulsate.

You live in California (according to your info), 2000 and newer don't need to be dyno sniff. Just a simple plug and monitor for 10 minute and your done. Just make sure all monitor are on.

As far as tuning, you would need the split second cd/software.

Yeah you definitely need a wideband AFR sensor, you're not getting the full story from the stock sensor and ECU. Hard to know whats going on without accurate numbers, but it's odd that you would be running so rich with the 7th injector setup.
Let me know if you need the split second tuning software and I will send it to you.
