Wouldn’t a V8 option be nice?

if you want a full size engine then go get a full size truck. The tacoma is a midsized and a v6 is just fine for it. has plenty of power for what you should be doing with a small truck

What the 4.30 gears do is make it easier for the engine to move the wheels at the expense of overall speed. Imagine pedaling on a bike in 1st gear vs. 7th. One makes it easy to start moving, the other lets you go fast at the top end. The higher the number the more exaggerated the effect (why people regear to 4.88s when they wanna push bigger, heavier tires). This is an oversimplification of course.

What this means is slightly more perceived torque and probably less gas mileage. These days, all things being equal, an auto is more efficient on paper over a manual trans pretty much across the board. In our case, we don’t have the stupidity of the 3rd gen auto programming and a better diff gear ratio. I chose to give up a few MPG for that trade off (and I just really wanted a stick).

I would have loved a v8 but like many other vehicles I would have been Very happy for a Factoty offering wha. Super charged v6 or an even beefier V6. No reason we shouldn't be able to get over 300 hp out of the Tacoma. Extra power would help move the truck. Power is ok but I have not been impressed. I have towed (slow no power on hills). After a lift even worse. Will eventually re-gear but it's a bummer. I wanted a smaller truck but wish it had more power.

    That's a steal.

The XL trim packages are actually pretty perfect for anybody using a truck as a truck. New head unit, seat covers (though the factory vinyl is great quality and super supple), and a take off grill from an XLT or whatever other flavor and you have a smoking price on a 3/4 ton V8 4x4. For the price, modding it to suit your particular tastes is very cost efficient.

If that was a super crew with the same specs at that price (and local), I'd sell my 4Runner tomorrow.

Yeah, that's my thought exactly. If I would have seen this two years ago when my GTI got totalled I would have pulled the trigger. I still REALLY love the size and handling of the Taco tho.

I want a manual, it is one the the things that drew me to the truck in the first place.

So automatics have 3.80's and manuals have 4.30's? Toyota's webbsite doesn't have much for specifics like that.

And you can deck out an XL pretty nicely too if you want, save a couple grand from an XLT and you don't get the gaudy chrome grille.

I know that is a good Value. Those are good looking trucks but it won't work for someone looking specifically for a midsize truck.

Why not a twin hair dryer small displacement V6 with almost 330hp and still gets 26mpg city and can tow 7600lbs amd can trailer a 6000lb load up into the mountains and back while averaging 16mpg? Ill see myself out...:bananadead:

If I were rich I'd buy one of every truck on the market.

Please dont hate me. We had a third gen DCSB TRD OR with the 3.5 and auto trans. Drivetrain was yuck, loved the rest of the truck.

If I was rich I would restore the truck I already have and not have to deal with trying to figure out what I want for my next truck.

Soccer moms and soccer dads have killed more vehicles than you realize.

Anything they deem worthy of ownership begins to self neuter with every revision. There is little market for a factory offroad vehicle when you compare it to the average midsize truck buyers needs.

Tacoma will be a Tacoma forever, but it won't be the Tacoma nearly that long.

Autos actually have a 3.909. It’s the differential gear ratio, not first gear (if you had the full version of the screenshot you attached, it would be the row right below).
