RECALL NOTICE: Check your Kidde Brand Fire Extinguishers

Interesting! I must have done the same with my plastic handle ones...just put in the only number I could find that was 5 digits and looked stamped on. Good post!

 

Yeah. No need to decipher the code for a date. Too much brain power required.

The Recall Submission Form only requires the date code.

When should we get our replacements?
I think the recall website response after I filled out the recall submission form was to keep the recalled extinguisher in service until the replacement arrives. This worries me.

This is such a massive recall, that it might take a good chunk of time before we receive the replacements.

 

I submitted my claim on November 3rd and just got a tracking number for my replacements.

 

I submitted claim on Nov 2. Hopefully I get this soon. I have two extinguishers that are “in service” until the replacement arrives.

 

I'm good for two. They're even replacing one a friend gave me manufactured in 1985! Guess they don't want kazillion dollar lawsuits.

 

They told me 10 to 20 days. This is day 10. Hopefully this wont turn into a Tacoma leaf spring style recall.

 

I have an account with FedEx and UPS where it'll notify me when there is a package coming my way. I did not get any shipment notification directly from Kidde.

 

One of mine was 1987 and I have no idea where it came from. Probably found it under the console of one of my boats. Was surprised they accepted it.

 

I just selected one category and entered all the numbers. Success.

 

They were actually pretty quick. I submitted my 3 beginning of November and got 3 new ones (with metal handles) at my door Wednesday. I only live about 50 miles from their offices in Mebane, NC (near Greensboro). They do ask you to return the old extinguishers in the boxes supplied and provide FedEx mailing labels. You just have to call FedEx for pickup at your house or work.

Found one more old Kidde extinguisher in the back corner of the garage I forgot to submit - may just take that one out back and let my 8 year old see how they work. No substitute for real life experience.

I got one of two. I can only assume that either they are overwhelmed with recalls of certain models or one of my extinguishers doesn't qualify for the recall.

 

I haven't received anything on my recall submissions. Also, they updated the recall site to include this picture...

 

Same here, It's going on a month. I called about the second one, and they said give it ten more days, they are buried with orders.

 

They accepted the serial number, and manufacture date, and model, on mine and said it was affected. Was my kitchen fire extinguisher.

Need to check the one I keep in my truck - which is in the shop right now.

 

If people are paying attention Kidde would be flooded with hundreds of thousands of claims I'm sure.
