...tighten it back down? I don't have a 2nd gen but I don't think that one bolt being loose means the whole shock is loose...just tighten it and be on your way.

There are other bolts in the top hat and the lower bolt that keep the shock in place.

I've only seen something like that a few times. TMK the shock's shaft has a shelf that the top hat sits on and prevents the rod from being pushed up, just how a coil over should be. From the pictures you're showing, it looks like your top hat has failed, or the shelf on the shock's shaft (say that 10x fast ) has failed.

There's plenty of thread already showing, don't think that's the issue at hand.

I see that now. Looks like the whole assembly is backing out. Weird.

For all practical purposes you do not have a working shock on that side. If it were me I would not drive it until fixed or in an emergency,
then drive very carefully. Should be fine to drive to a repair facility with care.

lower washer that goes first on the shock shaft is either missing or has failed.

Those look to be just the standard black non trd shocks, I've got a set front and rear with only 7k miles on them, off of a 2015 Tacoma. Been trying to sell them for a while... Interested? I'm willing to keep price low if they need to be shipped because I just want to get rid of them. They are literally packaged and wrapped. Been sitting like that in my garage for about 2 months. I've got photos too of the shocks before they were packaged.

Might want to tuck that ABS wire back in where it belongs so it doesn’t get snagged.

You are awesome, this forum is awesome. I had the brakes done by a local shop, and I guess they didn't put that back! Good looking out.

I really appreciate your input and offer, I already hit up a local shop for front shocks since this is my daily driver. I'm only getting the fronts, but I do want to get the rear ones eventually. I'm still kinda new so not sure about compatibility, but I do see some locally for sell also like this one below, so I'm gonna have to pass for now. Thanks though!!

The ones installed are Bilstein 5100s apparently.

These seem like a really good deal but I'm just going to get 2 new front ones done at a local shop.

I wish this was the case! I was about to literally drive this 4 hours way from where I live, and was advised to not drive my baby :(.

I was quoted about $700 for front Bilstein 5100 with alignment. Am I being ripped off?? Going to shop around more. Curious about other people's cost to get front shocks replaced. I'd expect all four for that price.

Uhhh yeah super ripped off. I got all 4 5100s installed and my 3 leaf AAL packs for $200 at a local alignment shop. Plus the cost of the 4 shocks that would still be less than what they quoted you to install one.

Just get the coil and shock assembled and install it yourself, it's as easy as a few bolts.
