I whole-heartedly agree with your statement, as I can remember using the rear locker one time on my many miles of travels off-road; HOWEVER, 2 things:
    * The PERCEIVED usefulness of the rear locker/MTS and other off-road gizmos will be a nice perceived benefit when or if you resell, which should bring more value.
    * Although I've used the locker only once, it came in VERY handy. Easy-peasy going through the off-camber dips with zero wheel slippage, and no need for a running start. I've also got a peace of mind when I'm traveling in the back country, as the roads do get washed out at times.

I think, personally, there is more functional value in the Off Road for the reasons above.

Exactly, its hard to pass up the extras in the OR considering it is the same exact price as the Sport.

The OR seems to me to give more bang for the buck, but I suppose if a guy were to not do any off-road travel it might not make a lot of difference. I love the way my DCLB rides, very stable and smooth.

I live in North Carolina and I have a 2017 Off-Road with the wireless charging. Is it only available in the Sport up in Canada?

Locker, Crawl Control, Multi Terrain Select, vs Scewp.

That is correct. It only comes with the much maligned AT. My experience thusfar is that the AT works fine, the engine has some pep, and I have no complaints about the truck whatsoever.

I love my 17 OR. I had a 15 Pro but when I bought it in for service they made it clear they wanted my Pro. So they gave me a deal I really couldn’t refuse. Plus I got them to add the Pro fogs and Pro shift knob in on the deal for free.

17 OR, loaded with JBL sound. I could have went with the sport but after test driving both I liked how the OR felt. Only thing I wanted from the sport was the hood scoop (that doesn’t work lol) but because of this forum I’m meeting a guy next weekend to do a hood swap.

Like everyone has said it’s up to you, drive both and pick which one you like better.

To me, as long as you like the ride of the OR, it shouldn't even be a question. The OR is just a tremendously better value.

I'm potentially shopping Tacomas too, and I decided very early on that it would definitely be the OR for me. (or SR5 if I decide to go budget). Some of it is personal preference; I don't like the look of the color keyed trim, nor do I care for the wheels and minivan tires that come mounted on them. I also think fake hood scoops are lame.

I probably won't do much off-roading either, there's not much wheeling near me, and the wheeling that DOES exist is more suited to a modded Jeep than a pickup truck. However, I think it will be nice to have them if I decide to go wheeling, as well as if I travel to places that have wheeling. Plus, I think it will have better resale as compared to the Sport. Just think about how much in demand older land Cruisers and Tacos with the factory lockers are. Sports seem kind of a dime a dozen.

And for me, even if I never wheel it, the OR will at least keep me from immediately having to shell out for new wheels and tires, as I couldn't live with the ones on the Sport. I actually really like the OR wheels, and the tires are not my first choice, but they're better than what comes on the Sport anyway.

And it seems that the only real appearance upgrade over the SR5 you get in the Sport is the hood scoop, the SR5 (and I think SR) have the color keyed fenders as well.

My biggest complaint with all of them is that you can't order heated seats as a stand alone option; I really want them, but can't really justify or afford to add the tech package with all the other things I don't care about just to get them.
