Vettel didn't do it on purpose but he did fuck up. Verstappen frustrated him and in the heat of the moment over drove the car into a problem instead of exercising a touch of patience. At least this time he didn't blame it on a rookie.

 

Defiantly Ferrari misinformation...

 

I have 2 problems with this analysis.
1) It assumes Vettel didn't realize his front wing was already damaged (I think he knew)
2) It assumes Vettel is not one of the best drivers in the world.
You have to assume A) He didn't have full control of the car B) He didn't know how the car was going to respond in the corner, there may be some merit to this based on the wing damage, but I don't buy it.

Edit to add, I didn't see Hamilton touch Ver with his front wing, so he had to back out a bit.

 

Obviously Vettel should have backed off and just gave up the position. Remember the gripe about Singapore. Oh how the tables have turned.

I don't think it assumes any of those things. At those speeds I'm not sure a lack of downforce was all that critical. He was forced, or took himself, off the ideal racing line and was simply pressing too hard during that short time. It's easy to see how his aggressive line compounded into a problem with traffic. Even the best drivers in the world, which he is, make mistakes.

 

The drivers can't see the front wing

 

Come on guys ignore your 'TV camera placement' perspective of the car, the drivers sit way lower and have no idea where their wing really is. Theres a reason theres long yellow lines in the start boxes on the main straight, its so they can line up their tire cause they have no idea where their wing is.

Nissan is taking Renault's spot in Formula E and I don't think the VW Group would enter 2 teams , certainly not 2 different power units

Audi is currently the only new manufacturer to attend FIA meeting re the new spec engines , Aston Martin is "looking into it" as is Coswortb supposedly

 

The drivers know exactly where the edges of the car are. I can't see the front 2 feet of my Z4, I don't bash into things, and I don't even get paid millions to drive it.

 

It was a racing incident like all the others we've seen this year. It was also one of many Vettel incidents that cost him winning another Championship. Hamilton is the better driver this year, Vettel is just second best. Ferrari will have to wait until next year.
