OEM Roof Racks for Surfboards??

So I need some roof racks for the truck to haul surfboards. I have an interest in the OEM's but not to sure if I'd like to bungee cord the boards down or if there's special attachments. Does anyone use the OEM's to haul their boards or can suggest another rack besides soft racks. Pics would help tremendously. Thanks in advance!

 

I don't have one, so please don't quote me on this. But you should be able to buy aftermarket surfboard attachments (Thule, Yakima, etc) and install them on your factory roof rack. Most aftermarket rack attachments use a clamshell () type of install, so they should work. Of course you will have to test fit them first.

 

What happened to pipe insulation and bungee chords?

 

I have the OEM set up and carry my boards. It works really well, I got some roof rack board carrier from one of my local surf shops so no bungee chords

 

ive used the oem rack to haul my surfboards across the grapevine and it works great! you jus need to get the crossbar pads(dont know what they're called) from like thule or yakima so that the boards can sit flush. i wouldnt trust the boards tied straight down to the metal crossbars. the yakima pads cost me like $25 at sports chalet. there are 2 hooks on each side of the racks about a foot apart and i used mini tie downs, with the small metal clip, through there. sorry, im a girl and dont know many technical terms, but hope that helps. thats my set up, ill try to snap some pics.

Whatever happened to rain gutters? They were perfect for surfboard roof racks!

I use my truck bed and a bar insulator over the tailgate with a strap going to the D-rings.

 

Did that last summer bro. I just have too much other stuff in the bed, not to mention the bak flip cover!
