    This one was made by a local fabricator with some changes that I didn't like from the "original". The tire is offset to the passenger's side to allow mounting of my rotopax or whatever other crap I want to put on there. Just seemed like wasted space to have the tire in the middle there. I also have a basket that bolts where the rotopax mount is for random storage so I can change things up for whatever trip I'm on.

    But to your question, I like it but just like any modification, it has it's pros and cons.
    Pros- It keeps the trie nice and tight to the truck to lower your overall length- handy for urban and trail use. Able to keep a full sized spare with you and out of the bed. The entire assembly bolts on and off with only 6 bolts- really about 20-30 min from tailgate to carrier, start to finish. The extra weight just past the axle helps make the rear end squishy (Dakars).
    Cons- it limits how much you can use the truck as a "truck". Being a short bed there are some considerations as is when you need to haul something, this makes it a bit more of a pain. No tailgate means no "tailgating". But now I'm just nitpicking.
    I don't keep it on all the time, but when I have a trip, i can put it on and take it off when I come back.

    Overall I'd recommend it if a bumper with carrier are out of reach for you.

    You made it yourself that earns enough respect to overlook any imperfections in my book. It takes alot more thinking and is alot mre fun than swiping a card.

    I'd love to be able to do something like this and get my spare out of the bed. I don't think it'd work well though with the toungue jacks on the camper and the trailer. Idk but it deserves some further investigation

    I'll admit it's handy to bring the full size along. I run a 265 under the bed on a stock steelie when I'm driving around town, but if I ever get a flat without my full sized tire, I'm limping straight home on the 265 to pick it up. I've previously run something similar to the now defunct BAMF over the bedrail tire carriers and that might be an option for you as well, but say goodbye to your rear window visibility of you go that route.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/b-a-m-f-bed-mounted-tire-carrier.223453/

    Jerry doesn't make them anymore unfortunately, AFAIK.

    Thanks I've resigned myself to losing that visibility already. I'm kinda thinking about fabbing a vertical rack that utilizes the front 2 bed bolts and stabalizes by also connecting to the bed rail in the front. If I work it correctly it may also offer rigidity to the front of the bed. Yes the tire will block the window but it kinda is what it is

    Nope. Looked at getting one but the cost and wiring it up was a bit much. This one was $8 and took 10min.

    Its not bad if you have the right clothing and a warm ice house to retreat into if things get nasty. I'm an odd duck and winter is my favorite season. I can't stand the heat...you can always bundle up, but you can only strip down so many layer until the cops are called

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

    On a taco related note, finally took my pup for a ride in the new truck yesterday.

    Born and raised in Tacoma Washington. Been hunting in -20 degree weather and I've ran marathons in 100+ degree weather. I've been through the extremes and I've found Texas to be my sweet spot.
