Wouldn’t a V8 option be nice?

I’m not sure this is going to be a 10 year design like the 2nd gen was. The only only reason why the 2nd gen was a 10 year design was because of its popularity. Toyota typically does redesigns every 5 years...

Why do they need to address the drivetrain and powerhouse? The truck is selling, actually crushing the competion. Isn't that the goal?

True, but in my personal opinion the truck is selling based on its reputation right now. If you read the ratings on it, it is dead last or next to last in the category. On top of that, there are 2 new trucks being reintroduced to the market very soon. The return of the Ford Ranger and Dodge Dakota. On top of that, do you think that Toyota’s competitors are just going to sit still for the next however many years and continue to be outsold by Toyota? The mid sized truck market is going to change a lot in the next few years. Hear me now, believe me later.

Reputation of the 1st and 2nd gens were crap too, they were breaking in half yet that didn't seem to slow them down.

Return of the Ranger and Dakota might give people more choices but they're hardly going to dent the Tacoma sales.

Talk all you want, I believe what I see after driving them for 3 decades. I've seen the trucks come and go, the other models might find customers but the Tacoma will still supercede them in sales.

Ford, GM and Dodge all fight for the full size but have dipped their toes into the midsized market, they're not going to try and unseat Tacoma and possibly also leach full size sales from their own model. That's why they abandoned the market a few years ago, they just couldn't compete in full and midsize so they stuck with their bread and butter.

Toyota owns the midsized market, dips it's toe into fullsize but recognizes it can't compete in the HD catagory so it let's the domestics fight it out. That's why no bigger Tundras and no diesel fullsize. Tundras are sold to guys who want bigger Tacomas.

On the market as it were
Because each truck class keeps growing and skewing the results. Trucks today can do no more than those of yesterday, just a 2017 half ton can tow about the same as a 1980 one ton. A truck to do ____ existed back then the same as today.

Ford ruled the compact market for decades despite being a latecomer, don't count on Totota's lead being concrete if someone puts effort into unseating them.
