    Hey guys,

This is totally wierd. I was having some trouble with my desktop so I reinstalled my PC. Everything is running nice now except my wireless internet. What I don't understand is why my PC is testing a download speed of 344Kb/s! when my laptop PC is testing at 5,000+Kb/s.

Anyone know what I can do to get my desktop wireless speed up?

    basic Qs:

how many bars is your desktop's wifi connection showing?

are you sure you're connecting to your wifi network and not the neighbors?

Signal strength 4 out 5 bars and then drops to 1 bar for some reason. I am for sure on my connection because I had to enter my PW. What I don't understand is that this PC has been in the same location for a year with great fast speed but now poop.

My internet is still soooo slow. I updated the drivers on my wireless card and still terrible download speed.

The upload speed test is fine and is fast but for some reason the download is like 250kb/s. The laptop next to the PC tests at like 5000kb/s. :(

The only security I have is AVG. I'll check the windows security. Should that stuff all be turned off like firewall etc?

first off, try changing channels in your router. the 3 primary channels are 1, 6, and 11. try 1, see how your desktop's speed is, then try 6, then 11. you may simply be experiencing some interference in the spectrum you're currently using.

if that doesn't help, hard wire your pc to the router and see if it can download at normal speed. this will at least let you know the issue is isolated to your wifi.

De-badged, Grillcraft grille w/ devil horns. Work in progress :)
Definitely change the channels for your wi-fi. I had to change mine since someone moved near with the same router and frequency setup. Botched mine up till I changed it.
