New member here and perhaps soon an actual Tacoma owner, not looking to get bashed on my F150 as honestly I love it. Really maybe just looking to mix it up a bit, thanks in advance.

What do you want to know... the taco is smaller and would really feel under powered coming from a f150. I love my truck new 17 . I loved my old truck 07 ,but there is a learning curve to driving them and accepting it's shortfalls.

We need more info on what your purpose will be with the truck. The Tacoma is not the only midsize truck out there and there are more on the way. Knowing what you intend to do can help make your choice.
Coming from a full size you will want to extensive test drives.
Do you off road, do you take long trips, etc?

Take it for a long test drive if possible.

The biggest complaint from owners revolves around the automatic transmission shift programming and that may not become apparent on a short drive.

If it were myself at this point, I would wait to see what the new Ford Ranger brings to the table as it will be revealed in a couple of months.

Not enough information to sell you on anything. We need to know how you will use the truck and what your must haves in a truck are. List them out.

If you love your truck, keep it. Duh. You're gonna feel stupid after a month when you realize your mistake.

I love my Tacoma. Makes me want to drive. And it Just happens to be a perfect hunting rig with some utility to move me around as I move all the time. .

I think it's a Tacoma, let me go check again...
*Cracks knuckles* Where do I begin?
Go test drive one. Then go test drive a raptor.
Check out a Tundra if ya want more power.

1st Gen or a Raptor. But that’s just my totally biased opinion.

Welcome! New to this site myself, but I can't say enough about the info, help and people on here! I've always been a toyota guy, as I had 12 3rd gen toyota pickups (1989-1994). This is my first tacoma, a 2016. I traded in my 07 GMC Duramax for it. The power is obviously a huge difference...but I knew I wanted to go back to midsize as I wasn't hauling as much as I once did. Couldn't be happier with my 16.

As others have said, it all depends on what you're looking for. But imo, I don't believe you'll be disappointed. Toyota has always made great trucks, but in the end you have to be happy! Definitely take longer test drives where possible, so you can get a feel for it. Good luck in your search!

i just replaced a 2012 long bed with a 17 short bed.. went from sport to off road
i loved my 12...but several things bothered me persistently. The seats were terrible, the driving position (low) bothered me, didn't care for the steering (heavy) or really rough and abrupt suspension (because sport), the trans shifted hard especially 1-2 and in heavy traffic....those are the highlights
My 17 rides amazing, the seats are comfortable, the seating position is just right, the trans is weird (but predictable), the power is up high in the revs but wow it is there, the new features that the tech package has are worth the money to me...i honestly feel like i'm driving a limited 4 runner everyday with the capability and practicality of a truck

    no regrets on my end

If a test drive isn’t convincing then.. don’t buy it.

If you made this thread before a test drive.. see above.

You either love it or you don’t. I had one, loved it. Then drove an F150.

I no longer find any redeeming qualities in a midsize truck, dollar for dollar.

WOW if nothing else I like the action on this forum, way more traffic than the Ford one I'm on. The truck would be primarily my daily driver to work 20 miles round trip and be the family vehicle on weekends or any other time all four of us travel together. I don't need a truck (F150 or even a Tacoma) for towing or hauling as I do neither, rather just like driving trucks always have. I did test drive one today and was not unimpressed but wish it had pulled my want strings harder. I guess at this point it's the look of the truck and like I mentioned maybe just looking to mix it up while I wait to see what the new Bronco looks like.

Daily driver and family hauler, have you looked at the 4runner.
Did you let the ones who will be riding in the back seats check it out? And remember, if they are still young they will grow fast, so keep that in mind.

This is also my opinion. Unless you are buying the bottom end of a mid size truck line the value isn't there. Same price, same gas mileage, less space, less capable.

I am in the same boat, my '150 is a little older though.

Been here a few days, still on the fence. I love the looks and that it is $10k cheaper than a '150 and that it has a manual... performancewise it is a tough call though.

Also waiting to see what the Ranger is although pre facelift it looks too much like a crossover SUV. It is an older design and I fear they won't want to put a ton of $$ into changing for NA.
