When did you install it? Did you notice these issues right after?

Not really, I went from Calgary alberta to Phoenix az, and it definitely was different elevation

I never had prolonged starts in Calgary but I do in Phoenix

    I cant explain why

I installed in Calgary right around the first of july

I noticed a positive change right after install, even though it was positive it didnt meet my expectations, and now I have smallish issues

Very common problem... I’ve been running my blower without that foam strip for years. I think it runs better without

Scratch that. I see what that strip is used for now and where exactly it is placed. I agree, it should just be removed. It could be a problem down the road if it becomes dislodged anyways. I sort of feel like pulling apart my heat exchanger core and removing that stuff now myself.

Whitebeauty on xru may have some of those gaskets left.

I think the only thing the foam strip is used for is directing the air through the intercooler. So the winter months are great. It also soaks up all the oil from the pcv valve. Yes a catch can will get most of that oil but there is always a residue on the intercooler too. I clean my intercooler with carb cleaner couple times a year.

I have never cleaned mine before and I have put some 30K miles on it easily. I probably should take mine off to clean it as well. Good thinking.

I don't mess with catch cans.

Because they still allow mist or crankcase fumes through. Yeah they might catch the major stuff, but it will never catch it all no matter how many sources of filtering you have. Not only that, but messing with the length of vacuum hosing for the PCV is supposed to mess with the functionality of the PCV system as a whole.

If I really wanted to do something like a catch can, I'd rather just go the whole stretch and go with a negative pressure system like a vacuum pump, but that is super expensive and I already had that setup once before on my 6.0 full effort N/A setup. I didn't like the maintenance of it.

What sort of fluctuations were you experiencing prior to removal of the jet?

If it's buried in the thread here I apologize for the TL;DR comment.

Lower boost than what I should had been making inconsistent boost, lower vacuum idle and at hard feel. I was making 7-8.5 rarely 10 now I am making my 10 that I should be almost every time. The symptoms were similar to that of the serpentine belt slipping. Peaking at 11. Violent boost engagement at 3k rpm, it's much less now. That little jet throttles the bypass valve instead of allowing it free engagement. Now that it is not restricted all of those odd symptoms went away.
