Yeah, i seem to recall loosening it until I could move it, i know I slid it up too. @j0shu4 I think it would probably be wiser to take it off and move it over a couple teeth in either direction, @devinzz1 makes a good point, probably not wise to chance galling those splines slipping it the way I described, unless it can get loose enough to just move freely.

(I started a thread on this at one point but it didn’t really seem to get a lot of attention)

Question for you guys, I started to get a vibration in my truck like 2 weeks ago. It became less notice for awhile and I kinda forgot about it. The last couple days it’s became more noticeable. Things really get shacky when accelerating after 30ish mph from a stop light. Only get the vibration when I’m pushing the gas pedal.
Motor/ tranny mounts seem fine. U joints seem fine when I shake the driveshaft, I don’t know if that’s how you check them. The centerbarring has some movement, could that be the problem?

You need to remove the driveshaft to really check the u joints for play, unless they're so loose they're flopped around in the yokes. Usually the rear-most u joint goes first, the one bolted to the rear differential. You can just drop that end (4 14mm bolts) and rotate the u joint around throughout its entire range of motion to see if it is shot. Anything other than perfectly smooth rotation and it's probably due to be replaced.

The center bearing is supposed to have a little movement, how much is somewhat subjective. If it bounces around in there pretty good when you shake it up and down, it's probably due to be replaced.

Are your wheels and tires balanced? That's usually the biggest culprit in vibrations.

Mounted the OEM Toyota trailer hitch I bought off Craigslist. It was missing quite some hardware, include a large sort of square washer that held it to the frame. I ended up using a Simpson Strong Tie stud spacer for it - fit perfectly.

Man this hitch was a pain in the ass to install. Had to bolt, and unbolt everything several times to get it to fit perfectly. A shop crane helped tons.

Looks like you really worked the hell out of that engine crane haha. I think I somehow got by with using my stock hardware, but damn was all the stuff hell to loosen.

I'm pretty sure I have hearing damage from my DeWalt hammer drill resonating in my head. Haha.

Getting my damn money's worth out of that crane. Got it for sale at Horror Freight for $99.

People give HF a lot of crap but I've never had any problems with their stuff. I mean like when are you ever gonna use a ball joint service kit more than once? Their speciality tools are great buys - but I'd still rather have name brand stuff for my everyday hand tools. That DeWalt hammer drill is a hell of a tool - it's funny I use the HF socket bits to make it an impact gun.

HF is perfect for stuff that gets occasional use or that you don't mind running down and replacing if it breaks - I love going there to get stuff I need so I can browse all the super cheap stuff that gives me ideas for hillybilly engineering new truck hacks.

That's typically what I do, all my daily use stuff is quality and my irregular use stuff is HF or craigslist haha. Although @BartMaster1234 I need balljoint tools a lot haha so that one I actually found a used MAC tools version for.

I keep their $30 tool set in my toolbox. It's come in handy more times than I can imagine. The molding on the carrying case is terrible the tools don't stay put - but the tools are surprisingly good quality for what it is. Always stay stocked up on their 9mm vinyl gloves too.

Saw this 1st gen parked in front last time I went, actually. It was the first truck I've seen with the 3rd Gen off road wheels on it - kind of inspired me to run them on my truck. Oh and that TRD off road sticker is so fake, lol.

Balljoint press is awesome for getting all these tapered shank items (like balljoints, tie rod ends, various bushings) it is very useful for doing anything on the front end of these trucks (which you'll soon be doing), that and a pitman arm puller and you're golden. But I've also changed 8 or so balljoints with it, six of them my own haha

I think the 3rd gen wheels look better on first gens than on 2nd or 3rd gens. And TRD is a way of life - especially when you're hecho en _________ can't see the text.
