I dunno man, I was out on some easy trails with a friend several weeks ago, and I must have run over a burried log on a fire road, the log flipped up and smacked into my rocker panel. Put a 3” dent right below my rear door.

If you plan on wheelin *at all*, imo you need protection from obsticals... even seen sliders protect a truck in a side impact on the streets.

Especially when sliders can cost less (way less) than factory running boards (an $800+ option for my 4Runner), if you ride even dirt roads, get sliders that do the same thing as running boards, but won’t get ripped off and ruin your cab...

I’m runnin Trail Gear, got the unwelded ones through Jegs for like $200 with fre shipping. The prewelded ones would run you around $300

For the price Trail Gear and 4xInnovations are hard to beat. Both are DOM tubing and can take a beating

I don't plan on go off road that is why I sold the rock sliders, I may go for running boards later on ....however the previous owner did and this is the result:

Found them on Jegs, looks to be the best price. I'd think having them welded on would be more durable. However, I'm no welder, so I'm going to have to pay to have it done.

That’s pretty much exactly what mine looks like, except red. It’s not bad, but damn man, I was on a fire road. I have been on far more difficult trails, and plan much more, so if that’s what I get on a fire road, I need some sliders!

I’m of the opinion that running boards can do more damage to the truck than if you didn’t have them at all. One good hit can rip them off and mess up your cab pretty bad.

Also, when I bought my ‘17 4runner, one of the options I did NOT go for were the $800 running boards. I laughed at the salesman, and I don’t even plan to wheel with my 4runner. The welded steel sliders that can support the vehicle weight that I’m getting cost less than half that.

If I want steps for my 4runner, it wont be the $800 running boards that I can feel deflect under my not so fat ass (I weigh 170#). I’ll weld some sliders to my frame for half the cost.
