Largest size tires for a 2inch lift

I am going to be getting the Bilstein OEM suspension kit along with the 17” Black TRD Pro Wheels SKU:

PTR20-35110-BK. I hear 285 tires will slightly rub on extreme turns or will rub alot? What is fact? Should I get 265 so I do not have to worry about rubbing?

 

I’m in the same boat as you. I’m in Bilstein front 5100s on the 3rd notch and 1.5” block and 5100 rears. Planning on lifting another 1” or so in the future but 265/275/285 is a hard choice...

 

I’m on the same boat with OPs question.
Currently running 265/70/17 Ko2 on stock suspension with 4 Runner pro wheels. I’ll be getting a Blistein / OME 887 kit this week which should put me at 2.25”.

265 I think is too small, 275 doesn’t seem like much difference in size and 285 looks boss. However a lot of folks on here say one needs to trim,chop and regear to get the most of that size.

 

Here is what my truck looks like with 265/70/R17 tires with 5100's set on the first notch and OME 2887. Stock in the rear. No rub at all and took it off-roading so I had it at full articulation. Not sure how much bigger you can go with the tires but I did rub at in the front at stock height, I also have steel skids and frame sliders that might have contributed to my rub.

 

People tend to focus way to much on a lift for clearing larger tires, but you also have to consider the wheel offset etc. There's no "one answer" as there are a lot of factors to consider. That being said, with 285's you'll most likely have to do the CMC

 

You can probable do 275/70/17 without trimming depending on the offset, should be ok with the 4runner Pro wheels.

I have 265/70/17 with a 2 in lift on those wheels and have plenty of room to go +1 size, I just hate the limited tire selection in that size.

To demonstrate the importance of considering all the variables, I’ll share my personal experience:

Before I decided to lift my truck, I installed the stock 265/60/18s on 18x9, +12 offset wheels.

Then, I decided to lift, so I installed JBA UCAs and a complete OME 2” kit.
I knew from the JBA site that large tires would rub on the UCAs unless I did domething about the offset, so I put on Spidertrax 1.25” spacers.

Had an alignment done with caster set at 3 degrees and when I had 275/65/18 Falken Wildpeaks installed, they rubbed hard on the cab mount.

Brought it back and had the caster increased to clear the cab mounts and then they rubbed at the front.

Installed Bora 3/4” spacers and all is good.

In hindsight, I should have ordered the wheels in -12 instead of +12 and I would not have needed spacers.

Anyway, as you can see, there is a lot more to consider than just lift height.

 

I am running 275/70/17s on Scs Wheels (17x8.5 -10) with 5100s and 887s (about 2in) a and I've only had it rub once. I was goingh backwards off a curb with the Wheel turned. Other than that the Suspension has definitely been flexed pretty good with no problem at all.

When I was researching doing my lift it seemed like Ppl with Stock UCAs seemed to get lucky with 275s, like they didn't have any Rubbing. But alot of ppl that went with aftermarket ones had to play with their alignment alot more. I don't know if this is the usual or just a coincidence.

 

I think the offset of the 4runner Pro wheel is +4 compared to the +25 of the stock OR wheel. That will move you out from the stock wheel position to give you a little more clearance from the UCA.

 

I asked a question about switching to 265-75-16 so I can get the Grabber X3s if I put a 2inch lift (I'm pretty sure that will fit so that wasn't my question)... I was trying to find out how to get the speedometer recalibrated to the new tires and didn't get a single response....

 

Search for hyper Tech speedometer calibrator that’ll get you what you want.

 

You're assuming your speedo is 100% correct now with stock tire size. How do you know you don't have an error already?

 

Your suspension set up is exactly what I want to do with mine. I was wondering which generation 5100's do you have? 2nd or 3rd? Did you change the Upper Control Arms too? Also, how do you like the ride now compared to when it was stock? How does it differ if any? Thanks in advance!
