You're welcome. Also, 4 and 7 might be off the list for the dealer but don't necessarily take it off your personal list if you get what I'm saying. You paid a lot of money for the truck so the truck should be in line with what you want. I don't mind the shifting, actually it's decently smooth after 10k miles, but if it really bothers you check out the shift sense thread and/or the ovtune thread. Both products are not super expensive and the latest iteration of ovtune seems promising.

Absolutely. I have been eyeballing the OVTune for the past couple weeks now.

If you really want to understand your surging and braking "issue," then do me a favor: Go to the dealer and ask to test drive the TRD sport model around the parking lot. You will quickly realize the difference between the TRD Off Road and the TRD Sport brakes. TRD OR has the same braking system on it as the 5th Gen 4Runner. It is a different system, designed for superior control off road for sure. The Sport has "normal" brakes. The only real difference that the operator (you) really needs to know about is that you have to depress FIRMLY on the Off Road version of the brakes. It has a bit more tendency to creep when stopped but gear is in drive. FIRM is the key. Yes, there will be surging when the AC compressor cycles on and off. Every single vehicle does this, some are more noticeable, like our Tacomas.

Both braking systems are very good, just different. My last 4Runner had the brake system that you have. I test drove the Off Road Tacoma first, then when I test drove the Sport I about threw the salesman through the windshield. They are different but only takes a few days to get used to it. FIRM at stop is the word man.

Why is #5 not listed as #1 before window bubbles? I would consider it the main issue...

You have just described the 3rd gen. Tacoma. It doesn't hunt for gears, it downshifts because it's loosing speed. You could be going only 40 mph and it will shift to 6th gear. I just use the sport shift and only use 6 when going over 65mph. 3rd is too short and it makes 4rth a dead pedal. Their program won't fix these things, but it will help the surging for a while. Your complaint list will grow and in time you will give up on the dealer improving the product that you paid so much money for.

Hopefully someone wont run into yours while it’s sitting on the lot waiting to get fixed.

My new bumper cover should be ready Monday.

Just dropped it off, left feeling good.

Dealer is going to start by checking trans and diff fluids, and making sure the ubolts are tight.

My truck has done similar things at times, though not on a regular basis and not as pronounced. I have a friend who is a Toyota absolutist, he drives a 2015 TRD Off Road Taco, and he kept smugly saying to me "you should never buy a vehicle on the first year of a re-design, it will have problems". But the "problems" are what is normal for the Gen 3 Tacoma. He'll trade in in a year a two, and I'll give him a pat on the back when he wonders why the heck his truck just surged on a cold winter's morning and why the transmission is drunk. Despite all that, I still like my truck.

Man... reading all these problems other have just make me paranoid at every little noise and hiccup the truck makes lol.

I will say i get a howling noise that sounds like its coming from the engine area when going 30-40mph on any slight incline. Or some times in the morning when the engine is cold. Anyone get something similar?

I get a howling noise, it sound like the wind passing through something on the truck, sort of like when you blow over the top of a beer bottle. It's very subtle and I don't notice it all the time.

There's a post on here about the beer bottle noise with wind. It's most likely your lower control arms. There were made with holes on the bottom for drainage or whatever, and at certain speeds or with wind it makes that noise

Yeah, there is a TSB you can bring in and have them plug them with little caps. I had it done and still hear the noise from time to time.

Just let the truck warm up before you take off..when it’s cold the transmission is a little funky.like that in my dad’s 87 4Runner MT,my parents’ 2000 AT Camry,my MT 2000 Tacoma was a little touchy when cold, my 2017 TRD Sport AT is really touchy when cold and with trans cooler/engine oil cooler it takes a while to warm up when its cold out. I was worried to death being my 1st automatic and not able to select my gears.Cant get accustomed to my brakes either. It’s a Toyota, take it out on the trails and spank it a couple times and you’ll be fine!

I don't think trans will warm up when idling. I do think cold engine will screw shift points thanks to the engine management system. How long does it take for 323rd gen to warm up idling? Its crazy how many new cars are so efficient that idle speed doesn't do much for the engine temp. Reminds me my old diesel where coolant temp drops at every traffic light when coolant glow plug went bad.

It can take a while for the engine to warm up. The lower the temp the longer it takes. I thought something was wrong when I first brought it home because of how long it took the needle to move.I tried taking off cold one day, easy on the gas, and it was all jittery and would over rev really bad.I always wait for the needle to move now before I take off and am easy on the gas till it gets warm.Just have to be patient on cold mornings.
