The archaic SOHC 4.0 in the old Ranger put out 250lb-ft at 3000rpm. I would think with modern tech we could at least improve on that, not regress.

So go buy one then? Oh wait, you can't.

"A version of the engine is used in the Land Rover LR3 and Ford Courier in Australia and Canada, producing 216 hp (161 kW) and 250 lb·ft (339 N·m) of torque at 3,000 rpm. The Land Rover version of the engine became unavailable in the United States for the 2008 model year."
    https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Cologne_V6_engine

Nevermind. I see you want a motor that produces no hp and makes no rpms that produces tons of bottom end torque.

Go there and build you one with the diesel and you're golden pony boy.

Toyota puts the darn thing in everything from minivans to $50k+ Lexus’
(Obviously the Lexus versions are nicer)

The 16+ Tacoma engine is a Lexus version. Just detuned to last forever.

It feels much less refined though, there’s more differences than tuning.

I also just discovered the new Lexus 2.0 makes only 5 ft-lbs less torque than a Tacoma, but it makes that from 1650-4000 rpm.

Yeah but that 2.0 is a twin scroll turbo. It feels less refined because it’s in a truck.

I didn't mean insult but I would like a trucklike powerband for a truck engine.

The plastic gets shinier, the sheet metal thinner and the trucks get bigger. Most consumers walking around a car lot today don't know what a Powertrain is.

The same is true in housing. They walk in and see the shiny granite counter tops and believe they are buying a quality built home. All of the plastic plumbing , chip board and chicken wire is covered up. The Chinese plumbing fixtures and hardware wear out after a couple of years once the warranty period has expired.

I'm so glad I didn't jump on these things the first year, I've got a '17 OR DCSB and almost everyone of these threads I see is about a '16 and I've had none of these issues, motor is super responsive all stock (with no more lag than any other drive by wire modern motor) with power coming on right away, no squeaking, no rattling, no codes, no leaky rear diff etc

Mine is a '16 with all of the same things you described. Maybe I got lucky. Or I knew what I was getting before purchasing.

Are there any nerds on here that would like to take all the noted issues for Gen 3 Tacomas from all the various threads on TW, and chart/plot/spreadsheet each one in categories?

Break it down by model year, auto, manual, SR, SR5, Off road, Sport, Pro, Limited, etc.

Some things will overlap here and there and hopefully give a visual representation of where the bulk of issues popup on what configuration.

Then, anyone can just look at the chart/plot/spreadsheet and get an idea what to expect from their truck, or not.

TRD no longer offers superchargers, that is a aftermarket manufacturer producing that unit.

Is there even a Supercharger available for the 3.5?

Absolutely not, differences than tuning, other than a wiring harness and hanger placement, we build the 3.5 gr engine at Toyota Motor Manufacturing West Virginia and they build Lexus motors right beside Sennia motors and etc. The taco 3.5 is built in Alabama but share heads, block, cams, and crank(I know of) with the other 3.5 gr engines, because we have had manufacturing issues and sent parts to Alabama and got parts from them and Kentucky which builds 3.5 gr motors too.

Did you forget to test drive the truck before you purchased it.
Just kidding. Sorry your not satisfied with your purchase. Is the Tundra a possibility?

I have no complaints with my truck.

I just thought it would be interesting to see where the majority of the truck complaints/issues fall in respect to sub models, and drive train.
