I was just doing some experimentation with OBD Fusion today. I'm beginning to think that the only time DFCO acts weird is either when the engine is not yet up to temp, or when the A.C. compressor is on. Anyone else have any input?

I let my truck coast down to <1000rpm today on an off ramp, and my lambdas were pegged lean until <1000rpm. That tells me the injectors were probably in DFCO until then.

Side note, still can't read injector duty cycle or injection volume to be able to directly see when DFCO is active:mad:

I've found that it acts weird without A/C, and when up to temp. Most notably when I'm decending a steep hill in low range, the injectors kicking back on at about 1100-1300 RPM feels like you just lost your brakes. They don't cut off again until about 2000 RPM if you let the truck speed up. Some of us have requested that Mat decrease the cut in RPM to something closer to idle.. we shall see.

Did you buy the in-app Toyota specific upgrade for OBD fusion? I've seen the PIDs for injector timing and volume etc, but have not tried them yet.

I did purchase the extended PIDs for 2017. Either the Android version is missing the PIDs or the 2017 add-on is. I actually have an email to the developer based on your list of PIDs you were seeing.

Interesting...wonder if 4LO triggers yet another modification to DFCO. I swear the Toyota control software engineers over thought many useless things....and then d idnt spend enough time getting the basics optimized.

I will try them out on the IOS version once I get a BT dongle that works for more than 10min at a time lol! I've got another Carista scanner on the way.

Perhaps the effect is just amplified in 4lo because of the gearing. In any case, it's a fuel economy thing so all other considerations were out the window I'm sure.

    @OVTune -

So in the scenario where someones 2016 ends up at the dealership and has not been flashed back to the OEM, will the new "updated to 04B12" calibration still appear as 04B10/04B11 to techstream?

No, it will appear as 04B12. But that' still an OEM Toyota calibration number. Toyota would have a hard time figuring out if it wasn' them who put it on the truck.

Understood, I was just wondering because there aren't any TSBs that could be applied to a M/T truck that call for an ECM flash update. I suppose if a tech was on the ball (and actually gave a shit) he'd know that 04B12 was not the calibration my truck came with. Just asking in case someone forgets to flash back to OEM...

Just thinking out loud, no worries here :)

Unless there was a specific issue relating to ECU version, or the tech is a member of TW and has kept up on these threads, I highly doubt they will pick out ECU software level when they are doing quick scans for fault codes. The only thing I can think of relates to BMW (my background as a dealership tech and now independant shop owner) and when they are doing software updates at a dealer level. The scan tool will look at Vehicle Order and compare software levels of the vehicle at Plant level to what is actually installed. When they do updates to modules they typically update the whole vehicle instead of doing just one module. So if there is a discrepancy in ecu software level it could get picked up and flagged.

The techs don't even check diff fluid (even though they check the box on the service record). They ain't gonna find this. I bet most struggle with techstream. They aren't engineers.

I never said anything about total gains. I am interested in what is under the curve, everywhere. I am also not sure why you think the truck is almost undrivable, that is a very bold statement. The truck drives fine, just needs more torque in the midrange, which the autos seem to have. Also, why would you assume this is the wrong truck/motor for me? Simply because I need some hard evidence before dropping $800? You say you have gains, but did you do a before and after dyno? I don't trust your butt dyno, or anyone's for that matter. I added a TRD intake. I know it didn't do a thing for power or performance, but my butt dyno could have sworn that pretty noise it made effected power. It was nothing more than a placebo. I am not saying that the tune is doing that, just that you may be confusing actual gains for gains you are wanting to happen. That is why I like to see graphs.

When I was tuning with HPtuners on my Sky, the GM Tech2 could detect how many times the computer had been flashed. I don't know if Toyota has any way of doing this.

In Torque, I cannot see an injector setting, but it does have a fuel flow meter. While coasting, it does show zero. Similarly, I see the AFR shoot up.

That said, the throttle percentage seems to hang at 17%. I don't know if this represents the electronic throttle plate, the Atkinson VVTi, or the reading from the pedal sensor itself. I think this might be the source of the hang?

There are five different throttle position settings to read (Throttle %, A THR2, PedalD, PedalE, and PedalF). I just made gauges out of all of them and will see what it says on the way home today.

OVtune dyno results during auto trans development phase (1.01b I think). 30+ ft/lbs peak gain around 3200 RPM. It's on page 1 of the dev thread BTW:

    101b dyno.jpg

There's no reason to believe we won't see gains like this with the M/T once Mat gets things dialed in.
