My dream home would also have doors of that size. I am so tired of trying to squeeze furniture through 30, 32, 34 or 36" doors! Not to mention stairs that are 4' wide would be nice too!

I have been chipping away at a few unfinished projects as time and budget allow.
    • Plastering the arch where we demolished to allow for a pass through over the built in china cabinet
    • Retrofitting the built in kitchen cabinets to allow for a refrigerator to be inside the kitchen and maintain the built in look of cabinets

FYI, check your fire extinguishers! Massive recall against KIDDE brand. Pretty much anything with a plastic handle is probably on the list.

I have been working on my front fence and deck. Made some real progress yesterday. This is my first house and first time attempting work such as this, take it easy on me. Haha:sawzall:I am doing X railing, so it's not completely done in that picture. I can get more today as we begin the painting.

Garage lighting coming together after removing a single hard wired flourescent dual bulb T8 from just behind the door opener (which blocked quite a bit of its already crappy light). I had an electrician use that circuit to install 3 duplex outlets across the ceiling from side to side on this 2 bay side of the garage (before I had the attic above insulated, a different project).

This is the crappy original flourescent. Placed perfectly so no matter what you are doing, it casts shadows where you want light.

I'm installing 6 LED linkable units in 2 rows of 3. 4100 L each, 5k color, IIRC. Flush mounted for max overhead clearance. 5 foot cords allow some flexibility for moving the fixtures if I need to adjust for overhead storage in the future.

Here is the crappy 100w incandescent on the opener I've been suffering with for about 3 weeks.

    One unit in.

I was wondering why water was overflowing the gutter this morning.....I forgot to clean the gutters out after the first windstorm (which knocks 90% of the pine needles off) and they had clogged the downspouts. Thankfully an easy fix other than having to reach my hand into just above freezing temperature water!

New fuse panel going in tomorrow. Shitty old house going from 130 to 200. Hopefully that fixes it. No hot water or furnace for a couple days now, getting old

I have a question for all of you home improvement gurus. I live in Central GA, bought my house 2 years ago and have been fixing it up. This is a starter house for us but we did find that we are lacking a bathroom and living with 1 bathroom is tough. I and wondering how one might add a bathroom with my floodplain and if y'all believe it would add or take away value. I've attached a rendering of my floor plan, it's not exact but it's close enough to give you an idea of what we have. We would like a master bathroom so we don't walk across the house at night and so we have a bathroom to ourselves. It's only us in the house but we do have the rare guest over. Any ideas and thoughts are appreciated, I am young and new to real estate so I have a lot to learn.

I'd probably make the computer room the new master and take some space for an en suite from the laundry room.

Maybe add a closet to your computer room, make that the second bedroom and then steal some space from BR2 to add a master bath?

I would get rid of the wall going from the kitchen to dinning room to have more of an open concept so it seems bigger, that kitchen is crazy small for me :crapstorm:

I think the only way to add a master bath would be like the above poster said and make the Computer room the master and then take away some room from the laundry.

I think your first step needs to be to assess how easy it would be to move plumbing lines around to make another bathroom. Like is everything currently run in a slab or in a crawl space? Also if you are on septic is your system able to accept another bathroom?

Depending how much work it would be to move plumbing lines, you might be just as well of remodeling a lot of the inside. I could see taking down some walls and making it more open

My DIY is finishing my basement. Once done it will add about 1800 square feet to my house. It will be done in 2 phases, phase 1 includes bathroom, bedroom and living room and will add around 1300 square feet, phase 2 adds a second bedroom and a workout room which will add the remaining 500. I am extremely lucky in that my builder used 16" trusses for floor joists rather than 2x8's so all of my duct and plumbing run in the joists rather than below. So far I have the framing completed as well as the electrical, I also ran 1 1/2" PVC to my TV and to my upstairs TV area so that I can have runs for wiring or anything at a later date from what will be my electronics room once done.

What it will look like when done:

What brand of lights did you get? Any links? I was working in my garage yesterday thinking of how shitty the lighting is. Needs an upgrade.

I ended up with these Sunco I got on Amazon. I watched a lot of videos, visited HD and Lowes and Costco, and dug through tons of similar products on Amazon before settling on these. Flush mounting is not the best with these (blind screw keyways on top of each plastic end cap spread apart, so not good for centering on joists), but all the other features and reviews were good. Another reviewer said the top shades are metal, and he just screwed straight through those. I did the same, making a jig and predrilling the shades, then used the jig to transfer layout to the joists and drill pilot holes. 2-inch #10s with fender washers.

Note: when I bought these a couple weeks ago, they were $189/six-pack. They just shot up to $229 o_O They had the same light in 2-packs and singles, so maybe those price better now.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0728P14FR/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

EDIT: note that these are surprisingly light! I could hold them one-handed from the top of an 8-foot ladders and drive one screw in almost flush, which was enough support to then grab another screw and start the other one 3 feet away.
