I installed the TRD exhaust on my OR MT today. I wanted to share my experience with anyone who is interested in adding one to their Taco as well. After shopping online I decided to go to the dealer and see what kind of deal I could get. MSRP $699 I paid $594 and it was in stock. Instant gratification is always awesome. I installed it this morning. Took about half an hour. Wiggling the old one out and wiggling the new into place probably took the most time as I was laying on the ground without jacking anything up at all. Very easy install. I left the bubble wrap on the tip until I finished installing and I recommend you do the same. The sound on initial start up is cool, just a perfect low growl in my opinion. The tip looks great next to the chrome OR bumper piece. I personally feel this exhaust makes the most difference at low rpm, giving me a nice tone that was not there at all before. Mine is paired with the TRD Intake too. I could not be happier with the combo. It puts my Taco exactly where I wish it came from the dealership.

I don't think it's available for the DCLBs. I tried to get it when I bought mine.

My rig came with the TRD cat-back exhaust installed from the factory as part of OEM so I don't know what the truck feels like with the standard exhaust; I do like the low growl sound. After installing the TRD CAI about a month after date of purchase I did notice the throttle response is better and the engine sound is also louder. Can't tell if my power increased however Toyota does advertise "measureable" power increase which I guess they can legally claim even if it only adds half or just one horse power.

Maybe I bought a $369 noise maker but what the hell, one additional horse power is better than nothing. Would be awesome if Toyota actually advertise the power increase but my suspicion is that it's negligible and it may hurt sales if they did... who in their right mind would pay $300+ for just a few more horses besides me and a handful of other Tacoma Nuts

TRD intake, exhaust or other. Where are the before and after dyno graphs? I would be willing to bet no more than 3 HP. However the sound might be more pleasing to some. VIPER 488 cu in v10. Intake and filters gave you 10 HP at at the crank. Not noticeable during acceleration seat of the pants or on the strip. You could of course hear it suck air better.

@cblow5 I have put about 150 miles on her since install yesterday. I don’t notice any difference at all in performance or mpg positive or negative. I do really enjoy the low growl on start up and low rpms. When floored and pushing 6,500 rpm the low growl is gone and it’s hard to tell if I am hearing the intake or exhaust but I enjoy the way it sounds. I get a fun feeling every time it goes over 4,500 and the timing really kicks in and the gas gauge starts to dump. I took it off road a little today to see how it would sound romping around. I liked it.

I am strongly considering the URD Y pipe as well. However I’m waiting to see if anyone has negative effects from it being glued to the transmission.

@wirenut It is pretty mild. A little louder than stock, but a ton more refined than most aftermarket performance exhaust I have heard. It is perfect for my taste. If anyone is looking for a “hey look over here” exhaust, this is not the one for you. Wide open it is hard to tell if the exhaust or intake is louder. They kinda work together for my ears.

I was looking a the stock cat back and noticed that the TRD and stock are very similar. I cannot find any specs on the stock. I'm sure (assuming) the piping is larger on the TRD and the muffler is less restrictive. It does not change the crimped bend that extends outside of the frame. Mine has some good scratches on it. He URD Y pipe looks straighter and the frame protects the pipe.

I think you are right...URD Y pipe on my list with the MBRP Cat-Back. I think we are looking in the same cost neighborhood as the TRD.

I have the urd ypipe and TRD exhaust.
I won't claim that it adds any true performance, but I will say I bought it for sound.

It wasn't to bad actually, it was harder taking out the OEM ypipe. Make sure you lightly tighten the URD so you have some wiggle room during the install.

Did you get good instructions? Did you think about cutting out the OEM pipe? Mine is pretty tore up at the bend below the frame.
