Former 1st Generation owner (2003). Bought new in 2003 and sold this past June 2017. I'm currently driving a 2013 Ford F-150 to see what a full size with a V-8 (5.0) feels like but decided to go back to the Tacoma. Planning on purchasing a new 2018 next year after I return from 6 months overseas for work.

Thanks for all the great information and awesome pictures. Really liking some of the cool builds on here and trying to figure out the best set up for what I use a truck for - Home Depot/dump runs as a homeowner, dirt bike/moto trials bike hauler, recovery vehicle for broken dirt bike/broken rider, and driving out to the woods and mountains to hike, camp, and shoot.

Welcome Chris! Sounds like a Tacoma would fit the bill for your needs. I'd go with an access cab if you don't have more than one passenger regularly, or a double cab if you do carry a few folks from time to time. Sounds like a long bed would fit your needs better for hauling bikes, and making trips to the dump/home depot if you don't have a trailer that you would regularly use.

Thank you Robert! During my experiment with the F-150, I realized the Tacoma is the perfect fit for my needs. I had a 2003 access cab but with 3 little kids now, I need a truck that can haul the kids in a pinch (we have a Sienna van for family transportation). I also live in the city of Seattle and the truck needs to be able to easily fit in tight parking garages. Even though the truck will primarily be my fun mobile, my wife also wants to drive it occasionally. I’m planning on buying a double cab and need to decide on bed length.

No problem! and this makes me think a short bed might be better for your needs. they have a tighter turning radius, and i've still seen folks on here haul motorcycles and other bikes with a short bed, they just have to leave the tailgate down. If i was driving one in the city, i'd probably go with a double cab short bed, just for a little better maneuverability in those tight spaces you mentioned.
