None, don't use credit. Going into a debt for anything other than a true emergency is pretty dumb.

Don't worry, all these guys paid cash for their houses. Same way they never took nothing from nobody but made it to the top on their own.

I've seen this fight too many times lol.

I have a mortgage. I financed $95k at 2.25% which means that if I went full term (I won't) I'd pay a total of $130k for my house.

By comparison, if I had kept paying rent and saving money until I could afford to buy a house with cash, I'd have been paying $8400 a year in rent (and that's IF it didn't increase). In 4 years I'd have paid around the same in rent that I'll pay in mortgage interest for a 30 year loan, but without living in my own house, earning equity. And there's no way I could have saved the $95k I'd need to pay cash for my house in 4 years, unless I chose not to eat, drive, purchase clothing, pay for electricity, etc.

By going into debt, if I chose to sell my house at this very moment, I'd walk away from it having gotten ALL of my 'rent' money back for the last 5 years, plus whatever profit I'd made from improvements I've done to the house (at this point I could realistically expect to sell the house for at least $150-165k, and it would sell quickly at that price)

So how's that math? Seems better than renting, to me. :notsure:

Never ever had any debt with my Tacoma, my company bought it for me. That said, I paid cash for all of my other vehicles, including motorcycles, whenever I bought anything in the past 15 years. House has been paid off since I was 45, I'm now 55.

I'm not bragging and I'm NOT rich. Just very responsible with money and live within my means. Worked my ass off to get this far..

People seem to think "debt" coincides with "irresponsible"

It's pretty easy to sit on a keyboard and blast away one sentence affirmative statements on TW. Really that just starts shit with the people argumentative curmudgeons love to prey on, that they paint with the broadest brush they can possibly use, and leads to a conversation without any gain in knowledge. That's probably why this place is kind of a shit hole to have a conversation with anyone in a thread over the last few years.

People are arguing over whether or not debt is an intelligent decision or even morally acceptable? Talk about taking a conversation down a dead end track to nowhere.

The sad thing is that the rewards cards are basically killing off small businesses. A small business can't threaten a card processor, they don't have the sales to worry a processor, so they end up getting stuck paying the majority of the fees that fund the rewards. That system needs better regulations to redistribute the costs equally so it doesn't favor larger credit card processing customers.

NFL trash talking thread is ok, as long as you don't take anything that's said seriously.
