Yep, tried original 1.03 "C" and didn't have issues. I felt it was a bit twitchy for my liking, and with winter coming on thought it better to try something a bit less radical (throttle wise). So, I flashed with original 1.03 "A" and got CEL/code/limp mode about a mile into my first drive. At that point I believe Ares32 already had an issue as well, but I had not seen it on here.

After a few emails back and forth, Mat sent out revised files for us to try. Unfortunately I got the same result as before with 1.03 "A". This time I stayed on my street and had my laptop with me.. so getting back up and running on 1.01b was a snap!

Remember folks, this is the first version of the dedicated M/T tune. We'll get there, it's just a matter of time :)

Edit: Oh and my truck is completely stock WRT the drivetrain, and I'm running stock sized wheels/tires. All files used were 91 Octane.

    @OVTune

I just read your blog entry and had a couple quick questions.

This is for the MT tune, and I am only interested in the 87 octane version.

    1. For the 87 octane tune that you are releasing for the MT, is the timing map the horrible stock one or did you smooth it out but stay more conservative?
    2. Is there anything other than aggressive timing map absent from the 87 tune versus the 91 tune? cam phasing? fueling maps?
    3. You mentioned the switch to open loop at 3000rpm. Were you able to extend the RPM range for closed loop, or did you only change the target AFR on open loop to lean things out and it still goes open loop at 3K?
    4. I know your work is proprietary, but is it possible to post images of the re-worked timing 3D plot just for visualization (i.e. remove numbers). What about the 3 different throttle map 3d plots for visualization? I like seeing the issues with the stock maps, but it would be nice to be able to visualize a before and after.

Still trying to decide if the value is there for me considering I don't want to be tied to 91 octane and don't have the horrible AT. I am a mechanical engineer by trade though, and the non-optimized and apparently sloppy stock tuning bothers me.

@OVTune Assuming the 2018 Tacoma's have a different ECU version due to TSSP (surely they had to add coding to the ecu to communicate with the sensors), do you plan to also create tunes for the 2018's, specifically, the manuals? I'll be purchasing a new truck in the coming months and would like to get a 2018, but if you have no plans to try to tune it, then I will get a 2017 as I will definitely be getting a manual and OVTuning it!

I think he may be referring to Toyota's Safety Sense that they're supposed to be putting in all 2018's. Some type of accident avoidance system.

Yes, was referring to the Toyota safety sense, my fingers decided to throw an extra letter in there.

I really really want this tune. But since I have 04B10, I will be waiting. I simply can not induce reliability concerns into my truck. I camp and hunt too often in places 100+ miles from town with zero cell service.

Im kinda bummed really. I was looking forward to this tune.

definitely hear you on that issue. reliability is an absolute concern. but as you've seen mentioned, if he can get the ECU base code updated to xx12 you'll be in business. I've had the tune since alpha on xx12 and not one code or hiccup yet in all the versions... although I've not yet seen 1.03 for the MT. [foaming at the mouth waiting for it]

This is not controlled by the ECU. So no worries, we will 100% have a 2018 Tacoma tune.

I am working on a fixed release for the MT.

Thanks Mat, appreciate your diligence on this.

Unless there was a 04B11 tester we're not aware of, this problem COULD affect those trucks as well. If so I can understand why you don't want to release to the masses until confirmed good to go.

All we know right now is that 04B12 will work because that's what the dyno mule was running. It's better that only 3 of us had issues rather than say 20,30 or more ppl. Limp mode while on the road is dangerous folks.

Alrighty guys, discussing more with the shop that builds some amazing Turbo systems, and we are looking at moving forward with this very soon for the 3.5L.

    Now next...
We have so many people asking for a pre-order list...pre-order list
while we can't do a pre-order list, we will first have only half of the amount in stock posted. Once they are sold out we will post the second half.

I hope this will help so that everyone is able to get a kit for the holidays.

Process will be the same as our standard instructions. Download all software, input your PCMFLash license, registration complete.

    next... we are looking at a tacoma R&D vehicle...tough choice.. 3.5 or 4.0? :p

    Future R&D

just waiting on MT 1.03 over here.

fyi i would consider going turbo if, and only if, the was a Positraction rear diff available for it. at this time there is not, and going one-legger with high power on this truck is a traction nightmare on tarmac. the 8.75" Posi diff will show after there's enough of them worldwide for Eaton to profit. that could be 2+years away.

I'm not the typical guy regrading this i know. but i definitely don't need more power with an open diff. my rear tires cut loose all the time already.
