Good deal or pass?

Hey all. Sold my 2012 Tacoma TRD Sport couple months ago for the same price I bought it for 2 years ago. I have now found a 2017 Tacoma Off-road, doublecab, long bed, 4x4 with tech package (not JBL) for $33k out the door. (Doesn't include my Texas taxes but does include shipping from Nebraska). Truck has 15kiles on it and from a dealership. Not certified. Hold off on a 2018 or pull the trigger? Thanks in advance.

If you wait for the '18 you get the "smart" safety features...and the added cost.

 

Yea really want Cement exterior. Local dealer quoted me $39k for the exact truck for a 2018. This one is at a Dodge dealership.

 

Get the VIN number off it and run it for Recalls or TSB's

 

You should be close to that for a new one these days, or very soon. I'd pass.

 

Truck shows 0 recalls on the website. The way these things hold value used vs new is a hard choice.

Like somebody above stated, you can get a good deal for a 2017 that is certified.

 

I don't know man that's a pretty damn good deal on the used 2017. Even if he gets a brand new 2017 below invoice he'll still be paying $37k+

So he's getting $4,000 off at least by buying one with 15k miles, so at minimum 26 cents per mile discount, that's normal depreciation on a Dodge but to get a Tacoma for 26 cents per mile depreciation is actually a good deal.

And depending on his local new car market he might have to be $38-$39k to get the same thing new, then it makes even more sense.

OP I'm not saying absolutely buy this used one but deal wise it actually looks pretty attractive. Go see what you can get a new one for in your area and then decide if $x amount is worth the savings to YOU.

 

That's what I also looked at. That same truck here in Texas sells for $35k+. New one after taxes I'm at close to $41k. This one at around $35k after taxes. 2017 2wd Sport access cabs are around $28k here.

 

So you're saving $6k buying used.

At this point its just your own opinion that matters, seems the consensus here is that people would happily pay $6k more for a brand new one, but that doesn't mean its wrong to want to save $6k for 15k miles. I know plenty of people that would also take the used one and the savings.

yes but 39k is no miles and is 1 model year newer with the safety stuff. plus leather seats. I would bet dealer will sell 18 for about $1800 off msrp which should be about 39k is right on for the long bed
