I think in your case, that is max.

But I always have to relearn how to fill the forms every time.

Dad has been doing mine, he does like 12 people in my family so is always stressed to the max doing them and hasn't taught me. I told him this year I want to sit down and learn what he's doing.

That’s what I thought, I had to pay a little last year. I would like to break even. I think the mortgage will balance it out.

You will get money back if you donate to a charity (even old clothes and stuff), use write offs for using your personal vehicle for work, and you guys can have a kid and start getting money back. Being a non-child bearing married couple sucks come tax time so I hear.

you can file single and 0 if you want (but also remember paying in extra is giving the gov a interest free loan) also if you wife works only one of you should claim a dependent. i.e. if you have 1 kid, one of you should file married and 1 and the other should file single, other wise your household is claiming and extra dependent somewhere

It is absolutely awful. We found out the hard way after owing $4000+ one year. Married with no children and you might as well give all your income away. @TheTacoma Zack hit the nail on the head. Give give give give. Save all receipts having anything to do with work. ALL of them. Donate every dang thing you can keeping track of it. Use your car tag ad valorem tax. You probably already do a lot of this. Once you are married, either have kids or get ready to bend over. We are now breaking even but we have to give a crap load away. No more yard sales, it all goes to goodwill or christian ministry thrift stores.

Edit: God forbid you forget that $900 side money you made and forgot to file it. That cost $1700 in back taxes this year with interest. SAVAGES!

It was filed as an expense by the person I did the work for. I just completely forgot about it. It was my fault for not keeping my records straight. IRS would fight about 5 dollars if it were a married couple without kids that owed them tax money.
