Toyota TRD Wheels

Hello fine folks. I'm in the market for some TRD wheels for my 2016 TRD Sport and confused as hell.

I'd like to buy them but don't understand the clever verbiage that sellers on ebay use to describe the wheels.

The price difference is over 200 dollars.

I just want some wheels for a good price. And what does SEMA mean.

It says full manufacture warranty, but who knows. They look pretty nice and are cheap..I may consider these if we find out more info on them.

 

Those say 17x8, I thought the true 4runner pros were 17x7? I'm sure someone will chime in. Makes me want to go outside and actually measure mine.

 

SEMA is an exhibition show in las vegas each year so i'm guessing these wheels made a debut there?
They're stamped as factory "JJL" i believe is Enkei but China will counterfeit anything so it may be a gamble. Then again, even the legit factories set-up shop there now.
Be nice if someone else already had them and could give feedback.

EDIT: I've been mistaken about that stamp since the '80s. It's JWL for passing Japan's wheel standard. Who knows if it's legit anymore now though. I can't believe counterfeiting is soo widespread now and and copyright laws so lax.

 

The first link you posted doesn't appear to be genuine Toyota wheels based on their manufacturer part number "SB1780.5" and that they list the size as 17" x 8". The second link has the Toyota part number "

PTR20-35110-BK" and list the correct size 17" x 7", plus their from a Toyota dealership. Not saying there is anything wrong with the first set of wheels but that's probably the reason they're $200+ cheaper.

 

The EBay ones are made to look like the OEM TRD 4runner but are in fact different offset. I believe they are called FN FX pros. Type that in the search bar here and you'll have no problem finding all the info for them. Some guys and gals prefer them over OEM.

SEMA style refers to the TRO Pro that was at SEMA Show a few years ago and are now offered as a Toyota option. I believe these wheels come stock on a 4 Runner TRD Pro, or they are an option in their catalog or something.

In any case, FN Wheels makes the FN Pro FX wheel which is a 17x8 which looks like that.

Just order them from Conicelli Toyota and use their coupon that comes out almost every holiday. I’m sure they have one coming out for thanksgiving. Usually 10% off, it might be out already. Follow them on Facebook or twitter and get alerts. Use their search tool at partznet.com and type in the part number of whatever you want.

 

first ones are replicas hence the term "style" and they're 8 inch wide as others have pointed out so they're not oem.

I can't remember the vendor but the oem ones can bet had a little less than that listing too.

 

For an extra $200 its a no brainer to get the OEM ones.

I'm just not a fan of aftermarket wheels though, unless you spent a shit load of money and get volks, BBS, Vossen etc... you're gonna be compromising on strength and/or weight. OEM wheels are very strong for the price and I haven't found any aftermarket wheels that are both cheaper AND stronger than OEM.

This goes all the way back to my days in the Supra community, BMW community, VW community etc... seen too many cracked after market wheels to trust anything other than top brand aftermarket (which are $expensive$) or just OEM replacement.

I entertained a bunch of different wheel options for my third gen but settled on some OEM TRD trail teams wheels from an FJ cruiser. OEM offset and size and all the strength of an OEM wheel.

I would've got the TRD pro wheels and thought about it a lot, but for offroading I feel there's more options and better fitment going with a 16" wheel, just my opinion though. On my M3 I ran 19" because my goal was a low profile tire, with trucks my goal is a high profile tire so seems to be working against my own goal going with a bigger wheel and leaving less room for tire.

The first link isn't OEM but it's wider, which is nice if you ever plan on putting 33s on. the OEM wheel is only 7" wide so the biggest recommended tire is a 32"

Some dealers will match online pricing which is $171 each. Genuine Toyota with warranty, no knockoffs.
Especially if you can find a dealer nearby that sells online cheap.

I paid $172 per wheel form Olathe Toyota for real ones about 2.5 months ago. $688 for real ones vs. $617 fake chinese wheels is a no brainer IMO.

 

They will hold your order. They did mine since shipping on wheels is too much to do for free. Maybe you will get lucky though.

I ended up cancelling the order since it took them 4 days to tell me that the free shipping didn't apply.

Just picked up mine today. I bought them because I needed 17 inch wheels for the Wilwood big brake kit the was introduced last week at Sema. I also got mine for $688 which is the employee price even though I am not an employee. This also matches the Olathe Toyota price. The links below are the 2 lowest prices that I found on the net. I wanted to give the business to a local dealer but I would have ordered them on the net if I could not have gotten the price I wanted. Hope this helps.
