Well even though you have to restart it after you get in, its still warmed up. But to me, for my money, they are more hassle and waste of fuel then they are worth.

Just the drone doesn’t work or nothing with the remote start works at all? The Drone you have to pay subscription fees for. If she has separate remotes try them. If it’s not working with them see if it’s flashing the lights giving you an error code. If so it could be a couple of things but usually they just go into valet mode if the battery is low, dies, or is disconnected.

To exit valet mode try one of these steps:

With a 4 button remote. Press lock and truck buttons together.
With a single button remote, turn the ignition on and TAP the button 5 times. Waiting for the LED to flash in between each tap

Or if you have both remotes you can reprogram the remote and it’ll take the unit out of valet: to do this cycle the ignition key on and off 5 times. The parking lights should flash. Tap the first transmitter, unit should click, then tap the second. Note: it’s best to fill up all the program banks so you don’t have an interference problem. So after programming the second transmitter just repeat the process

Also you can turn the ignition on and tap the brake pedal 10 times. This doesn’t always work and only works on certain units.

Hope that helps. If not try to tell me how many times it flashes and I’ll direct you on what the code is

The regular remote works, she paid the subscription last year about this time (wasn't cheap) and the thing won't work with her phone.

Did you call their support? They should be able to ping it and test it. They used to allow the installed to go back in after the install was performed and test functions and stuff but don’t think we can anymore

Her brother started it off his laptop in the diagnostic program. It won't work with the app though.

I'd rather not think of all the $ spent :(
I have a Viper and have on last few vehicles. It's a huge luxury up here @ -40F. Never had an issue. My daughter has a Compustar with no issues. None of us have don't the cell phone start as all I have seen require a subscription. Range is great on the Viper; I've actually started mine while landing at the airport, then walk out and jump in a warm truck!

Mandatory tint, in-channel visors, and 265/75R16 MT Toyos.
I see it as a double wear on your starter at that point. I would look into it if you didn't have to restart.

Not nearly as bad as stop/start tech

But it does suck. I don’t use mine nearly as much because it does annoy me

Interested in this as well. No point for me personally to have a remote start with out a take over.

There is only takeover on regular key ignition systems. Push button will turn off when you open the door

Anyone have the 12voltsolutions remote start with the Smart Start also? If so, does the smart start tell you when the engine shuts off? I also noticed after it shuts off, the doors don't unlock right away, anyone else notice this?

Not double the wear unless you use the remote every single time you start the truck. So you might need to buy a new starter every ten years or so, if that often?

As I have stated before..... OEM remote starters are being offered as a add-on factory direct on the 2018 Tacoma's. My service advisor said it won't be long before he can order me one for my truck.

As someone whom works in a parts department I can tell you that this isn't likely the case and the advisor is likely just blowing smoke up your chimney. Usually Toyota has accessories rolled out along with the new models when they release and if not, getting them integrated within the second year. The remote start has always been a popular accessory but has absent for the Tacoma in all of its incarnations from the OEM. If it's not rolled out by now, I wouldn't hold my breath but hey, you never know as Toyota Corporate is known to throw us curve balls, like for instance looking on the ASG to see that they added window rain guards for a 2017 model only to remove it within 24 hours.
