If I could afford to do that, I would. I believe I put in 9% currently, my 401k guy says the goal is 10% at my age.

People not maxing their contributions now will suffer much later toward retirement. Definitely hard to do so best to put in the most you can legitimately afford but remember there is a cap. So you will not be able to make up for it later unless you over invest in other markets.

I imagine in the next few decades the government will begin to target 401k money, its already on the radar.

Financed mine through Toyota. Then they declined my warranty request on a a headliner so the only thing I could do was to refinance. Did that through my bank. Eff you Toyota! :luvya:

financed mine through toyota. 2.9% so i thought it was a good deal and they made me a killer offer on the truck so I went with it. Will be paid off in 2021 most likely earlier as I always pay more than my payment due

cash + $5,000 on Visa; wifey likes her Nordstrom rewards $$....or was it air miles! Paid it off the next billing cycle, so same as cash, but with some benefits.

There is a good argument for investing cash rather than paying off debt during times like this, but then there are the times when the bubble bursts. I have never been able to be in the know (Federal Reserve)to read when that time would come, so I have always tried to be debt free as I am now. That way I am OK either way. Plus I can't stand paying interest.

Exactly. I financed my truck. We made over what my truck is worth in our 401K's and stocks... in the first six months of this year. Um, I'll take finance for $500 Alex.

This sounds great in theory, but I imagine the amount of people that actually do this is very small.

For us, we started working on debt from smallest to largest years ago. As time progressed and debt went away, we went to contributing a larger percentage to investments and savings. Increasing investments each time we were given wage increases, bonuses to general savings, all while never adding any debt. This allows us to pay cash for vehicles now, while still investing a large chunk. I'm on track to retire at my goal of 50.

True - and my general rule of thumb is that, aside from some appreciating real estate assets, don't buy anything (financed or not) that you couldn't pay for in cash if needed. But you're right, very few people probably stick to this...

IMHO a 401k is one of the slowest manners of making money. You could easily get triple the rate using crypto-currencies or investing in real estate

I was going to buy mine cash but i looked around for financing and found really great rates (my credit score is >800) the course of my loan was only going to cost me like 1200 bucks so I financed it. At the time I liked having the money in the account vs in my truck. I keep telling myself I'll pay it off but I don't want to pull the money out of the account. A little at a time was less painful . It also didn't bother me because besides my truck I'm debt free.
