I was going to get the 4.56 but every post i see the RPMs on highway are way to high, i have a 4X4 TRD OR 6 speed manual running 33s 285x70x17, would the 4.30 gears put me on the right spot? i do have to drive at least a couple hours to get to the trails here in Socal. any advice/input:thumbsup: would be much appreciated!

    4.10 for 33s if you have a V6 manual

I think the 4.10 will put back to stock, I would like to get some more torque when I need it on the trails.

OP what are you looking to get out of re-gearing?

Most with 285/75R16's stick with the stock 3.73's especially with the 6MT with its lower OD gear vs the auto.

4.56's will put you spinning WAY fast, buddy with 35's spins faster than stock at the same speed with them, but on his rig its worth it as he weighs a lot more and is at altitude (though he is supercharged and did just break a CV shaft haha).

Technically if you wanted to get right back to stock gearing / rpms. You need a gear that is 7.02% lower. Stock is 3.73. 3.73 x 1.0702 = 3.91.... your closest ratio would be 4:10 and that would have you spinning just a bit faster than stock. 4.30 would be double the difference, and 4.56 3x the difference.

Its all just math and there are multiple ways to do it. Stock tire circumference is 96.02in, your tire is 102.76in. if you solve for X .... 96.02 / 102.76 = 3.73/X (cross multiply and divide) = 3.99

Needless to say OP, unless you find 4.10 gears for cheap and want to do the labor your self, i wouldnt bother. Unless you plan on going bigger tires in the future.

For reference to achieve the exact same motor rpms at the same speed as stock on a v6 2nd gen 6 lugger with a reference 265/75R16 tire you need

    265/75R16 (aka 265/70R17) = 3.86:1
    285/75R16 (aka 285/70R17) = 3.99:1
    295/75R16 = 4.07:1
    305/75R16 = 4.16:1
    315/75R16 = 4.22:1

Is not my DD but I do drive it around town sometimes, i also Carrie a lot of weight, steel bumpers and some other stuff for off Roading.
I don’t mind to be a bit over on my RPMs but I don’t want my engine to be screaming everytime im driving @70-85 mph on the highway.
If I go with 4.30s Would the performance be better than the 4:56 on the highways, I mean I would get less revs on my engine with the 4.30s right?

Correct. the lower the number the less rpms it will take. 4.10's will put you 2.5% more rpms for the same mph as a stock geared stock tire truck with your 285/70R17's, 4.30's will put you at 7.5% more rpms than a stock geared truck with stock size tires.

For example. if it takes a stock truck with stock tires 2200rpms to do 65mph (gps), and you regear to 4.10's with your bigger tire it will take 2255rpms (or pretty damn close to stock rpms). 4.30's will be 2365, which is higher than stock, 4.56's would be screaming.
