Batteries rarely just die on their own, you can get little battery jumper packs a little bigger than a candy bar that would be really handy if you had a problem out in the sticks.

Bought my first 4wd in 1972. Never been without one. So 45 years. Owned 17 different trucks/Jeeps/etc. I've had 4 cylinders, 6's and 8's. Gas and diesel. Auto's and manuals. I drive in excess of 30K a year now days. In the past I've driven over 75K some years. In addition to lots of road miles, I do a LOT of off roading. Rocks, Mud, hills, sand, etc....

Screw manuals. Auto's FAR more effective off road, ESPECIALLY so on rocks. How much "fun" can it be to shove a clutch in a zillion times?

Thanks to the Internet, it really isn't that hard to find an MT anymore. The harder part is whether you are willing to drive as far as necessary to get to it.

    Haha.

Honestly it was probably due to lack of research. I wanted an access cab - that part wasn’t negotiable. Wanted the tech package. I would be using it off road so the off road made sense to me.

Sometimes I wish I would have done a manual lower end model and just put in an arb.

Other days I don’t mind the auto. If I am using sport mode and the correct gear for what I’m doing I actually don’t mind the auto. Using it in D makes me want to drive it off off a cliff - that’s even with the ssp or the tune.

Also I was coming from a brz that had push button start (but was a manual). It might sound dumb but that was a big one too. Add that and the Lexus key card I never have to remember my keys or get them out.

In the end I’m glad I got the model I got. Even though occasionally the automatic is annoying. I’m sure if I had the manual I’d probably just get annoyed in other places like traffic.

That’s coming from someone who spent their whole life dissing autos and driving manuals. Swearing they’d never own an auto. And that autos were for lower human life forms.

Okay last question. Anyone know if u can put a push button start on the Tacoma? I’ve seen them on aftermarket on subies. Just don’t know the clutch cancel switch and if that would affect it

The solution for that is simple.

Clutch in plus in Neutral= Push to Start

Clutch Start Cancel activated=Push and Hold to Start.

First what an interesting thread with an overwhelming preference of manual tranny. I been shifting gears for so many years and not sure if I'm ready to give it up just yet - sometimes the bumper to bumper traffic takes it toll.

Anyways, if you are looking for a 4x4 tacoma and the manual, you may want to look further into the truck options. May not be best to change out a start push button start. There is a reason for the key start with manual - the key switch can be used to get out of a situation or to climb up steep hills, it works kinda similar to autos with crawl control. You can see some examples on youtube.

See it now - yes the clutch cancel switch, thats it. not sure but I'd think the push button start would not work or they would have put it in at the factory. Let the pro's jump in on that one though to confirm

I don’t know the answer, but if I could swap out the push button for a regular turn key, I’d do it.

naw, more stuff to cost more if it goes wrong. But I'm sure it's possible, can't they put remote starts on manual tacos?

Generally there is a "not for carburetor or manual transmission vehicle" disclaimer.

    I also prefer a key.
