    Here's the story....

    VOLUNTOWN, Conn. -- The funeral for a Voluntown Marine killed in the line of duty while in Afghanistan will be held on Wednesday.

    The 19-year-old Griffin graduated from Griswold High School in 2008.

    Voluntown First Selectman Ron Millovitsch said Griffin’s family said he was killed by an IED while fighting on the front lines.

    Griffin was deployed to Afghanistan about a month ago.

    The body of Marine Lance Cpl. Tyler Owen Griffin will be flown into Providence Airport on Monday.

    The body will then be taken by hearse through Voluntown. Millovitsch said the town is encouraging residents to gather on the side of the road as the hearse passes throughout the downtown section en route to the funeral home in Griswold.

    A wake will be held at the Gagne Funeral Home in Jewett City, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 13.

    A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Voluntown Baptist Church on Main Street in Voluntown. Town officials said that because of the church’s small size, only family and close friends would be allowed inside. They said an area would be set 7up outside with a PA system for the public to listen to the service.

    After the funeral, mourners will gather at Constitution Field near Voluntown Elementary School, where Griffin’s family is expected to speak.
