Since you seem to be "Mr. Research", I would think that you'd catch some large red flags in that article.

    1. It's the second article on Google. (-1)
    2. It's produced by Stanford. (+1)
    3. But, it's not necessarily scholarly... (-2)
    4. The authority of the writer isn't really profound. (-1)
    5. The farthest the stats go back is all of 1999 (-5)

Fairly small sample size of games. Almost like it was chosen because it seems to prove a point.

I'll accept defeat with a more comprehensive analysis of the twice a year meetings statistics.

I'd also like to see meetings between top ten teams that meet twice....

Because, shouldn't a top ten team beat an unranked opponent twice, when the opponent isnt ranked?

    wikipedia?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_...s_that_were_rematches_of_regular_season_games

bowl games are 15-7 with the losers of regular season more often winning the bowl

conference championships are 19-11 with winners of the first game winning the championship more often.

    Hypothetical.

Auburn wins reg season game vs. SCAR.
Auburn goes on to win SECW division
SCAR goes on somehow to win SECE division

    Auburn is ranked #1.

SECE division is a dumpster fire and SCAR isnt ranked.

    They play in the SECCG.

Shouldnt Auburn win that? Shouldnt they win both?

Therefore, I was saying I'd like to see the numbers where two top ten teams play each other twice.

I don't like seeing teams play twice in the same year. you lost once, why do you deserve another shot? at best you go to 1-1 on the year and what does that prove, that you were luckier in which game you won because it was later in the season?

Made up in my head? Do you remember LSU crossing the 50yard line when they played Bama a second time? I dont.

Maybe I should say, its damn near impossible to beat ALABAMA twice in the same season.

well your memory is bad, because they did cross it...they just didn't finish the drive past it lol.

you are becoming opinionated in this discussion and less statistical, and seem to be irritated.

If Auburn wins SECCG, does that mean Clemson can claim part of it because they beat Auburn too

I agree with you that getting past both Georgia and Alabama is probably too much for Auburn. I'm all Auburn but I just don't think they have the team to pull that off. Think about this for a sec though. If Auburn were to win out and head to Atlanta to face Georgia, I think this works in favor of Alabama. Alabama would play one less game and still could be chosen for the playoff. Especially if Auburn were to beat Georgia twice. How could you keep Alabama out if their only loss is to the only team that could beat Georgia....twice. Of course this has about a .01% chance of happening. I don't think ANY team in the country would be able to beat Georgia, Alabama and then Georgia for the second time. Not saying it can't happen as many of you have said but the likelihood of this is slim.

What a finish to the college football season this will be. I think at the end of it all, the committee might realize a bigger playoff bracket is needed.
About the only guarantee is that somebody is going to be left out that probably deserves to be in.

That being said. War Damn Eagle!
