Autonation South Austin. They used to be Champion Toyota, and kept their service and sales people. Really awesome.

I wouldn't buy from any dealer in Central Texas, and by CT, I mean San Antonio to Killeen. If you're buying new, you're buying a commodity, and commodities sell on price alone. The warranty service gets done anywhere, so getting to know the sales folks means nothing, you're just a number in their sales quota.

I bought my Taco brand new out of Kansas City, Kansas, and saved $3K over the lowest price any of these CenTex assclowns wanted. 23.5 hour drive up and back, and even with the $185 speeding ticket I got in Tulsa, I was many dollars ahead. The sales guy in Waco told me that I was probably not going to get the price promised when I got to KC, and I told him that wasn't something he should worry himself about. Three days after I got back, he emailed me to ask if I "was ready to come in and get down to business", and my reply was simply a picture of the temporary tag...

    Yeah, I'm that guy... :D

Oh, there are lots of places happy to take that off your hands. We just sold my FIL's 2011 Highlander (he passed away) by taking it to both CarMax and the dealership. Dealership promised to beat CarMax by $400, then appraised us at $20K. CarMax came in at $21K, so the MIL sold it to AutoNation for $21.4K.

It sat on their lot for 2 days.

I worked at Charles Maund for a couple years. End of the year, everyone is scrambling to meet their volume caps to get their bonuses. They'll sell cars for less than they have into them. Not less than they have into them according to sticker price, but literally selling cars at a lose.

Do you think i will get a better deal on 2001 Taco TRD prerunner on the outside then a dealership? has about 190K miles on it.. pretty good shape.. I just didn't think a dealership would give me what I think it's worth.. Of course i am bias.. LOL

I do it with all of my vehicle purchases; if you're buying new, a Taco is the same vehicle anywhere outside of Commiefornia; why not keep more of your money in your pocket by finding out who really wants to sell. The guy I bought it from told me he didn't mind at all, he still got his commission, and did next to nothing to land the deal; just answered a couple of emails.

    Here are the steps:
    • Figure out what you want to buy. You can use Toyota's website to get an idea, but think it probably doesn't work for 2017s right now. I found Edmund's pretty useful, especially the TMV feature.
    • Figure out what your '01 is worth, if you are trading it in. Again, multiple websites to determine this, including Edmund's.
    • Email any and all dealers you want to give a shot at earning your business. The email needs to be short and to the point; "This is what I have, this is what I want. You have one shot at earning my business, and I'm not coming in to negotiate. If you get my business, I'll be in to make the transaction, as per the agreed upon price. If you don't get my business, I wish you well, and thank you for your efforts in this matter."
    • Sit back and compare the offers.
    • Pick one, go to the dealer, avoid any bullshit they may try, even then, drive out in your new Taco.
If you want the name of my guy in KC, I'll get it to you.

Actually the next couple of months will be busy for the dealers, go on the last day of the month and towards the evening time frame. The dealers like to get their numbers before they close out the month which can save you money.

I had a terrible experience with their service department. I went in for regularly scheduled service and they brought my truck up when it was finished but never brought me the keys. I asked them nicely 3 times in about 30 minutes because it was sitting right up front ready to go. The 4th time, about 45 minutes after it was ready, it took me yelling “Give me my f***ing keys!” In the guys face before he finally turned them over.
