First drove with a tech and then drove with the service director who is in charge of the entire department. The service tech said he may have felt the vibration but he said the only thing they can do is replace needle bearing. Since reading this thread, its pretty clear that that wont fix the problem.

He also said they had a "test" to determine if it is the needle bearing, which they did and he said the needle bearing is fine.

Long story short, do not go to El Cajon Toyota

Some dealers will fix it others won't. Usually depends on how mod friendly they are. The problem typically only affects lifted trucks so as far as Mag Moss goes your boned unless it's a dealer installed lift.
Toyota dealers dont have the fancy smancy ECGS puller tool so their typical fix is to replace the whole clamshell which is OK unless your running aftermarket gears like myself. Even then your stuck with another needle bearing that will most likely fail again if your truck is lifted.
Allot of other shops will charge you the full labor for pulling the clamshell, disassembly ect, ect. Find a shop that is familiar with the ECGS fix or watch a few YouTube videos and build up a little confidence to do it yourself. Most novices can knock it out in half a day, biggest pain in the ass is hammering the bushing in with limited space.

Where can we get the ECGS needle bearing? Is it the same as OEM or is there an aftermarket upgrade?
I have this same vibration at 45-50 mph, it’s very annoying and it goes away when I put it in 4wd. If I replace it with another stock one and so many have this same problem, isn’t there a chance I’ll get another one that causes the vibration again? I doubt the dealer will fix this and I don’t mind replacing it at my cost if it will go away since I like everything else about the truck (‘16 limited 4wd auto). Thanks

Never mind- I googled it and saw that ECGS is the brand. Will look for a local shop to install it. Love this forum!

im experiencing the same problem and after looking through some threads and found this tsb number : T-SB-0026-15 i called the dealership and asked if it was valid for the 3rd gens and turns out it is and that the problem will be fixed under warranty if they can reproduce the issue.

So my technician told me to get spacers that lower the front diff to straighten out the cv axle angles before replacing the needle bearing. Has anyone tried this? Could anyone recommend where to get the front diff spacers?

Even if they agree to warranty it they're replacing one shitty needle with another shitty needle bearing. The only permanent solution is the ECGS clamshell bushing.

What? No...Your CV axles should be completely straight if stock.

The issue is the a poorly cast carrier paired with a weak needle bearing design. There is a lot of weight and force applied to the needle bearing because of this.

I installed the 1" diff drop when I put my suspension on (almost a year and half ago now). I think for the price it's great and it definitely improved my CV angles. It does however hurt ground clearance by an inch and didn't prevent my vibration. Imo the bearing is already shot so adding that now won't do squat unless a new needle bearing or bushing is swapped as well.

It could be a number of factors, how bad are the vibrations? Could be needle bearing, could be driveline

Find a gravel road, put it in 4WD and if it goes away it’s most likely the front diff needle bearing.

If not, then it’s a driveline issue, obviously.

The vibration is minimal it’s not to bad.
