Sometimes people have to eat. In my county only 1/3 of people eligible for food stamps use them, because nature provides better chow... Also the Native Americans on the res next door hunt year round on our National Forests. The hills are still infested with deer. Now if they just take the antlers, that's a wtf.

They're all good. The stainless bodywork was implemented with space travel in mind o_O.

Sorry, lost me at the crappy science reporting.

"The venture is called Breakthrough Starshot and it would use a tiny spacecraft that travels at the speed of light."

In short you'd need infinite energy to accelerate an object with mass to the speed of light. Not gonna happen.

Later in the article it mentions 20 years transit time, which would include acceleration and deceleration time, so it's likely intended to achieve some fraction of light speed. That makes more sense, but is also completely contradictory to the highlighted statement above.

I'm also real skeptical about the "sizzling fireball" part claim. Sufficiently alarmist (and frankly ridiculous) that I also expect crappy reporting as the cause.

All that said, I spent a few years working as staff supporting some pretty sharp theoretical physicists. Really brilliant minds in their fields. Some were well rounded, but others were rather clueless on matters outside their narrow specialty. Take the words of "famous scientists" with a big grain of salt, particularly as they start talking about stuff outside their field. Especially so when then repeated by a reporter who quite frankly probably has to look up how to spell "theoretical physics".

Yeah at first they are, but sometimes you end up in a field hitting scarecrows and running into barns etc.. Things happen.

But, at some point in time, this world WILL be a sizzling fireball so he's definitely right on that one....

And yeah I agree, I've known(know) people with multiple degrees in theoretical physics that still don't know how to properly hang a photo on a wall. Literally, the theory of gravity escapes them!

No one poaches a giant trophy buck just to eat. If he had shot a doe, in June, he might have an argument to make (maybe they would go easier on him) but shooting a giant the week before rifle season opens is too convenient. Dude was obviously trying to beat everyone else to a big deer he had been watching for a while. Hope they throw the book at him.

It's amazing to me how we, as a society, have evolved into that which we justify and defend people who break laws.

He poached, he got caught. Throw him into federal pound me in the ass prison. Let him be a lesson to other poachers.

I’m sure you have fired across a road, forgot your tag in the truck, or broke some obscure law while hunting.
"If a cop follows you for 500 miles, you are going to get a ticket." -Warren Buffet

Everyone breaks multiple laws a day. Some get enforced harshly, others get ignored by LE and citizens alike. I have applied for a deer tag (Rifle) for six years and haven't been lucky enough to win the tag lottery yet. In that same time period I have killed two deer (through no fault of my own) with my truck. I see hundreds of deer in an average day. I don't poach, but I can understand why people do. It's better to take a mature buck than a doe. He's had his chance to spread his seed for several years, and harvesting a mature buck is good for the population, while the does are generally protected (out west anyhow) to sustain the population. In Oregon, the punishment is usually pretty mild for deer. Community service, a fine, and loss of hunting rights for a year or two. Now, poach a Bighorn or monster bull elk and they'll throw the book at you, but even the legislators understand people have to eat.
