do you have spacers or aftermarket rims to run the 285s? On the second gens you need a certain amount of spacing or you'll rub UCA. Don't know if it applies for the 3rd gens.

dont forget a CMC is very likely.

I'd do 255s but I don't want that harsh ride of E rated.

255 is far better for traction.

I do have aftermarket rims. Running 255 on stock size rims would be easier than aftermarket i think due to back spacing. But oh well, 255 should be fine and wont have to do cab mount hopefully.

Same boat, but most economical sense is to keep my wheels in a 16” so everything is pretty well E load in that for a 33” ish tire

    16 might give more options

for me being at a 17"
Its either Cooper ST Maxx or BFG KM2
Not fond of having a M/T so BFG is out.

I've had the coopers in the past they are great tires. Just really liked how my Goodyear Duratracs did.
    Too bad more companies don't make a 255 80 17

16 is good but everything is E load. Duratracs are great, if i go to 285 it will be a duratrac.

But 4 wheel parts has dick cepek extreme country in a 255 85 with about %15 off and a mail rebate of $$125, so 4 are just under 1100

ya there's a bit more options in the 16s i believe.

But meh even based on that article Eugene posted, its comparing a 33x10.5 to a 33x12.5
When talking width thats 265ish vs a 315.

So yes the negatives they mention are true of that size.
But since I found out I can drive on the beach in the Hamptons I'm thinking better floatation will be better. Even if I only do it once in a while. Besides for mud a 285 is better. 285 is a nice in between for that article.
And since I don't have many options for tires I'll likely just do the 285s.

I know Glenn and Eric are both running 285s and didn't need to cut the cab mount.
Depending on your lift and wheel offset you can get away with it.

For me I have no chance either way. Honestly even with a 255 I'll likely need to do a CMC since the total chaos UCAs add camber and caster. My wheel at a 265 measuring 31.6" is already pretty close. That extra height will likely touch the cab mount.

So figure if I'm doing the cut may as well just go with the 285s. Besides I think they're cheaper at times lol.

Plus I had the coopers peter has on my jeep. Although they are great. they had a lot of body roll. Could also just be the jeep but regardless. 255s will have more body roll than a 285.

    if you do cut it.

    285 70 17 or 285 75 16. so a 33"
I've heard you can do other 295s (34") but very few make tires in that size anyways.
Anything wider you'll start needing to bash stuff out of the way.

I'm already on 285/70/17 and I don't mind it. I only rub on wheel travel up and turning and it's not that bad.
I thought maybe I could go much higher.

It's required if you go wider. But so is smashing the pinch weld.

Wheel offset plays a roll as well.
For me on 0 offset and my suspension I'm already close to rubbing with a 265.

wheel offset and alignment as well. I know for my 12.5' wide 315's your can't even get the front on with it jacked up. Don't even talk about turning
