I need some help with Tacoma pricing (never bought one before). 2002 Tacoma 4x4 with 93,000 miles for sale in California. KBB says $9-10k, but the seller said that is not accurate for Tacomas since their resale value is much better than average cars. I'm not sure I believe this (wouldn't kbb factor that in?), but I wanted to see what the community thinks before going to inspect the truck.

    Here is the ad:

"93,000 miles. Manual Transmission, TRD package.

This Tacoma is an extended cab SR5 pickup with basically every option available. Locking rear differential, truck liner...the list goes on. I have added a cd player and upgraded separates for better sound and ipod capability. Miles are low at 92,000. Clean title, updated registration and the pink slip is ready to be signed over.

I will not respond to any out of state inquiries. I would prefer to make a local sale."

I did... he claims there is another offer for $11.5k cash, so I guess I'll just wait and see.

Any idea what it might be worth?

Also, he mentioned it have some kind of "minor accident" on the front end (where the insurance company appraised it at $14k a few months ago), so I am thinking I will wait and see... at least he was up front about that.

I spent a few months looking and most all Tacomas unless damaged or bad tittle, where above blue book, even when i bought mine we where in the 8's while blue book barely showed 7 (private party)

If there is rust in frame the dealer will take care of it, just have it looked at... simple and easy ... unlimited mileage

Cool. Guess I will be checking out a truck then. The issue is not the price I suppose, it's whether the market will support a higher than KBB value (in case I need to resell it), and it seems like people are willing to pay for it. I will just have to find out what kind of damage was done to the front end...

So what if he has an offer of a cash buy.
Unless he is going to finance the deal, your payment will be in full also.
Comes out the same as a cash offer!

for 2002 TRD with 93k for $12. i think its worth about 11k in cali. i bought 02 TRD stepside with 86k for $12. its was exact color & spec i was looking for. but im in snowy colorado, regional pricing for 4x4 is high here and TRD just added more appeal

    NONE.....yet!
NADA gives the following, in order......rough trade, average trade, clean trade, and clean retail.......His price isn't too far off. As far as reselling it, it just depends on how bad the next guy wants one. I guess 11K would be fair. I've seen trucks in that year range with over 130K miles for about 14000. I wasn't buying at that price, but someone bought them within a couple weeks. The good part is that there is always a market for these trucks. If you like it, and it is in good shape, go for it. Make sure the maintenance is current with those miles on it. Timing belt, plugs. , etc...

    TOTAL PRICE$9,750, $10,825, $11,675, $14,600*

Hmm, minor accident? Repaint somewhere? That effects value if they put aftermarket parts and had to repaint etc. Replaced the rad? How bad was it? It was a claim, so there may be a record of it. I would look into it a bit. Seems a bit high, but these trucks hold a value that doesn't gel with blue book.

I bought mine (2000) Xtra cab, auto, 4x4, 6 cyl, a/c, locking diff for 10k at 91,000 miles recently. It was above bluebook but here in Hawaii, I was fortunate to find one clean, no accidents.

I did have to toss in another couple thousand for the major service plus shocks and valve cover gaskets.

Overall I've got too much money into it but I figure it'll last a long time and I've got a great truck for less than half of a new one.

So I checked out the car and it looked pretty good. Exterior had some dents and scuff but was in good condition. Radiator, tire, headlight were replaced due to front end collision. Hood repainted. No frame damage. Passenger door handle was not unlocking from the outside. Engine sounded good. Underside was super clean (didn't appear to be offroaded ever). Clutch throwout bearing was noisy, but clutch was fine otherwise. Tires had some life still. How much should I discount off asking price ($12k) for the above? If any at all that is...

Here's what edmonds.com says about my truck today. It has 87K. If the one you are considering is similarly equipped and looks and drives good, i'd say it is worth what the seller is asking.

Pricing is difficult these days, with all of the bad press about rust and other associated Toyota issues. I've got a 2001 Double cab with 72K miles and did a check on line against KBB pricing and then did a query on AutoTrader to see what that model year/mileage were going for and if there were any out there for sale. I found (4) in a nationwide search on Autotrader, so it seems they are somewhat rare to find a FirstGen with low miles. Mine has the TRD offroad package, a hard shell tonneau cover (Undercover), bed extender and liner, running boards, sunroof...never been wrecked and had the frame replacement last year (new frame, leafsprings and 1500+ pcs of stuff swapped....warranty cost was probably $12K back to Toyota) I might part with it for $16 to 17K, but definately not for the the KBB version of $11K....general pricing is one thing...supply and demand is something else..I'm thinking my truck is good for another 20 years..

what u have is always gonna be more valuable to u than it is to someone else. with that being said, it dosnt matter what he thinks the truck is worth it, it only matters what you think its worth. good luck

He's an idiot or full of shit, or both. If someone offered him $11,500 cash for an asking price of $12K and he didn't take it, he's stupid.
