So I was doing some demo for a bathroom side job and put the corian vanity top, pooper, cast iron tub, and ceiling-high tile and morter and steel mesh from around the tub in the back of my truck today. It was sitting pretty low, so i decided to make a dump run. It bottomed out over small dips and whatnot on the highway. 1680lbs. That is officially too much weight. I could hear the cab creaking and stuff while going slowly over bumps. Its the first time i've bottomed out the back. I had 1450 in driveway stone in it and it didn't bottom out... today put it over. Just a heads up. Keep it under 1680.

Is it? I honestly didn't know that. I just put shit in it and use it like a truck. If it'll fit back there than load er up. And I still wasn't over the Gross Vehicle Rating, i was short by a few hundred pounds. isn't that what determines the amount of payload you can have? And wouldnt having the TSB raise the payload capacity anyway? I should have preficed this with this is not me bitching. I am not disappointed with the truck or anything. Actually kind of impressed that it took all that.

1,280# per Toyota's website. Consult the your manual for accuracy. It does vary slightly by model. This includes everything loaded in the truck so if you weigh 600 lbs then the capacity is reduced by that amount.

The manufacturer determines what the payload capacity is not how much you can fit in the bed.

The rear leaf spring TSB doesn't increase payload, it only affects how the weight is handled. Try to avoid overloading your truck. It's not good.

The rear end of these trucks don't hold sh@t! I put barely any weight in the back and the rear springs bend backward. I would love to put air bags on my truck, I just don't have the $! This is the only fault about my truck, other than that I love it.

doesn't look like it's lowered any to me. And this is only the second time i've had over 1000lbs in it. and I dont like tundras, i like tacomas. usually it's empty, occasionally a motorcycle or mountain bike or tools and small stuff. So whats the difference between Gross Vehicle Rating and payload? Cause the truck came in at just under 3 tons loaded, and the gross vehicle is like 6300 (or thereabouts). I was under the impression that the gross vehicle number was the max your truck is rated to weigh, completely loaded, and I was within that. This is a conversation that should be had over beer. Once again this is not me bitching, just making conversation. i love this truck.

I would be impressed as well if I was able to haul all that stuff as well. I would not make a habit of it, but it is good to know that it is possible. Just another Tacoma FTW moment in my eyes.

Yeah....The truck is rated to carry X lbs (based on the model and options) for a reason- Suspension, braking, cooling, transmission wear- all factor into that. Put your rig under stress like that and you are shortening the life of it drastically.

Not to mention- You can get ticketed/fined for violating that GVWR IIRC. It's not easy or common for pickups to get on...but big rig truckers get hit all the time if they aren't careful.

That is your vehicle, not his.

I'm assuming his is a 4wd model so per the website for a '10 model year truck it is 1,305# but I would still suggest referring to the manual as this can change from year to year.

This. Actually 1295 for my model (DC SB 4x4). But still, the point is...truck was over capacity...you didn't hurt it or anything, I just wouldn't make a habit of doing that.

The TSB will not increase payload past what's rated...because the TSB was designed to ensure the truck can in fact handle it's rated payload...
