I went back to the OP and watched the OEM video again.

They address the tweeters at the 4:00min mark.

I have my new tweeters sitting on the shelf waiting me to install them this coming weekend. I sure would like to do so without peeling out weather stripping and removing the A-pillar cover.

I will go at it very slow and use the plastic car panel tools and first try to remove the tweeter cover by itself.

 

I installed the plug and play subaru tweeters today..do you have to take the polarity into consideration when plugging the power cable back into them? I didn't think of it at the time and really don't want to have to go through the process of getting them out again I think I plugged them in the same orientation as the OEM ones were in but now I'm doubting myself and didn't check if theres only one way to plug them in anyways to prevent swapping the polarities.

I guess I was referring to a power pack. I'm gonna see how it sounds once I replace the tweeters and speakers of course, I was just wondering about the possibility of maybe wanting to put a little more power to the aftermarket speakers than the stock head unit is putting out. If it came to that, I guess maybe a power pack may be the route I would go. They seem easier to install than a regular amp, but I don't really know a lot about car audio systems though, so some of my posts may sound a little ignorant on this topic.

 

Yeah I want to keep the stock head unit though just because of functionality of everything, and I like how it looks and don't want to alter all that stuff in the dash. Not to mention the $$ lol

 

I thought about installing a power pack but the system sounds good and is plenty loud without one. It wouldn't be a "plug and play" solution either, you would have to wire it but there are ways to create a harness that wouldn't require cutting the existing stereo wires.

 

Agree, I sincerely thought I’d need a power pack / amp to get more oomph out of that HU but that’s not the case at all. It gets as loud if not louder than I ever want or need it to!

 

Just installed this setup yesterday! Very happy with the front 6x9s and dash tweeters. I noticed the rear door speakers produce about half the sound as the front. Is that normal? I sent all audio to the rear and it was flat and about half as loud as the front.

If this is normal, would an amp for the rears help alleviate this at all?

 

Yeah the rears really just help fill it out and create a good soundstage. So the lack of LOUDness in the rears is pretty normal. The stock rears weren't very loud either aside from some muddy bass. Perhaps the baffles would help some for the rears if you want more power, but I'm sure an amp would help you. For me the combo of the front/rear/tweets is perfect though. More power is ALWAYS an option though if you wanna do the work, those rears certainly can handle more juice.

 

I think this is normal as you really want your audio "staged" in front of you. Most rear speakers are used as rear "fill". Your ears are angled forward so you want the majority of your sound to be coming from in front of you.

 

I tried to do it without taking the a-pillar covers off-- was being slow and very careful and still broke a tab closest to the windshield. It took me maybe 30 seconds per side to remove and install the covers, I highly recommend just doing that. Makes it much easier

Did you disconnect the battery prior to removing the A-Pillar covers ?

 

You should, since there are airbags there. Probably not needed, but whatever

 

Yes, you should. I didn't and I did end up having to remove them and my airbags didn't deploy

Got my Noico 80 mil, and my door speakers so far. Still waiting on tweeters, my roller, and my trim panel removal tool kit. I guess while I wait I can see about mounting the speakers to the brackets.

Question: what hardware gets used to mount the speakers/brackets to the actual door? Do you just use the hardware that holds the factory speakers in?

 

The screws that come with kicker speakers (in the box) are used to mount the speakers to the brackets. The screws from the oem factory speakers are reused for the mounting of the new speakers/brackets.

Got my tweeters just now in the mail. Only thing I haven't gotten is my roller for the Noico. Now I just need some time to do everything. Probably gonna do the tweeters first and see how that improves the sound.

For the tweeters. There isn't a right and a left is there?
