Looking for a way to turn off the compass display in the OEM auto dimming rear view mirror (not the one with Home Link). I searched and only thing I found was to press the "Auto" button which I believe actually turns off the Auto-dimming mirror and a write up in the scion forum that involves prying the mirror opening and disabling the circuit board.

Any other tips would be appreciated.

I don't get it unless someone drives forward by looking in the rear view mirror I have a hard time understanding the problem. If you actually use your taco off road/ hunting- fishing trips, etc I see this as a great asset. I did not post this to offend just surprised this is a problem at all.

Yes it is distracting to me. I am older and have macular degeneration and have difficulty driving at night because of the glare from oncoming traffic. The auto-dimming function was a hard requirement when I bought my truck because without it I can not drive safely after dusk. If I have to use a sticker to cover the compass I will but was hoping there was a better way to turn off the compass permanently without loosing the auto-dimming function. I will try the push and hold of the Auto button that was suggested.

I do not go wheeling or I would have purchased the OR not the Sport, but when I do take my truck on the beach or local flat trails to go kayaking there are two other compass features that remain available to me and it is almost impossible to get lost around here.

I didn't care for the mirror compass because it's equipped with 2 others.
1 in the Nav display and 1 in the gauge cluster.
    The truck doesn't need 3.

I remember counting the compasses for a laugh when I first got the truck.

That I was able to figure out you can change the Nav display to 3 screen and make 1 the clock.

I always have clock visible, ok ALMOST always, on the head unit. Set home screen for Clock/Time 1/4 screen, Audio 1/4 screen, and Map 1/2 screen. I do not use the compass screen on the guages. I set it to instant MGP and Ave MPG there. Duno if you have a non tech head unit or not, if you do my experience does not transfer for you as I have the JBL HU.

With Pandora I get the album info, cover art, artist, song, thumb up, and thumb down all on the 1/4 screen.
Map tracks my movement allowing me to see upcoming intersects and traffic flow indicators.
Clock is in the upper left easy to see that I am runing late thanks to all the @#$#@%$%# snowbirds that think this is the year to come to FL early and get on the roads for every rush hour. :annoyed:

Maybe I should take the clock off my home screen and lower my blood pressure.

For others who are looking for the option, it is under teh settings on the HU. General or display I really do not remember which. Yo can also have teh map display POI and other stuff. Might be useful on vacation or traveling it does give a LOT of info.

Not being a dick, but I would think any other light in the cab or every oncoming headlight would affect you more than the 0.2 lux NSEW chars

I like the compass when driving in new cities, especially at night. Ever driven through Salt Lake City at night? 300E and S Temple?! What?!
