Haha don't worry Chad, it's nothing special, but still Chad approved.

Bedslide versus platform/drawers and slider system? GO!

    What are you storing?

    Large items - bed slide.

Assortment of small things - drawers

I see this all the time when walking on lunch breaks as well. Now I know the story behind it thanks to this thread. It always did look like an oddball, and never quite "right" compared to the Hilux from Mexico that shows up in my hood everyone in a while.

Here is my train of thought..idk if it makes sense but bare with me:

    Current setup:

    Cons:
    1) Top heavy AF. I cannot get too crazy in certain off-camber situations.
    2) Potential damage to the cap. I have not had any issues thankfully nor do I want to have any issues.
    3) Muscling the tent up there is a hassle and a half. Thankfully my brother assists. We both lift and are members of the 405 (bench press) club, but goddamn does it get old. I currently do not fit in the garage at home. Looking at options there..

    Solutions:

    Option #1 - cheapest (maybe)
Build a platform and DIY drawer system in the bed from the Craigslist deal I found over a year ago. The supplies are there and I just need to cut it to fit. It was for a 6' bed and plus I have the spare in the bed too.

    Pros:
    1) No tent up top and can send it at the park without feeling the butt pucker from some off camber situations.
    2) Save the topper.
    3) Fine for my needs; just one person.
    4) Temporary. Can set it up and break it down for bed space.

    Cons:
    1) Air flow. Mesh solutions needed for the windoors since I don't have sliders thanks to the dealer.
    2) Sleeping next to a 33" tire. Grounds for my HC with swing out? :notsure:
    3) Bed space. Usually have a cooler, water etc. Need space for that. Maybe lock up in the cab overnight? Need to test fit.

Option #2 - not so cheap

Look at modding the garage so I can fit.

    Pros:
    1) More room for activities. I can work on the truck in the garage in the winter time.
    2) I can build a hoist for the tent to store it above the truck when it is not needed and just lower it onto it when I do need it.
    3) Stay out of the elements etc. No fighting for parking out front.

    Cons:
    1) Cost (??)
    2) Space. Most of my side of the garage now is full. Would have to widen or add space to the rear of the garage for storage or build a loft space above the garage space.

Option #3 - Unlimited cost (kind of)

    A trailer.

    Pros:
    1) It's a trailer. Park it and leave it, go wheel and come back.
    2) #EAF points almost maxed out.
    3) Finish all the wants and needs: water, propane, fridge etc.
    4) I can finally get a welder like I have always wanted. Hone my skills and do work on the side.
    5) Always ready to go. Just hook up to Caitlyn and go.

    Cons:
    1) Cost.
    2) It's a trailer. Gas mileage, weight etc.
    3) Storage in the garage. Wife shut it down before, kinda ("no room to store it"). Might have to go with option 2 and this option. But that's the joy of building and designing your own. It can be as small as you want; custom.

Process going forward (next few months with winter here, I will have the time to research) :

    1) See what the garage would cost and see if it is worth the trouble and cost.
    2) If #1 is not in the cards, look at the platform and drawer system. Problem is, I still need the bed for store runs etc so it has to be easily removed and broken down.
    - Work on getting a HC rear bumper with Tire carrier to completely clean out the bed.
    3) I would have to test how that would work out though. Step #2 might not work out due to the bed being a huge asset for me and my needs/families needs.
    - Then, perhaps a Bedslide for full bed functionality.
    4) Ultimately, a trailer. Always ready to go. Just hook up to Caitlyn and go.

It was all over the city and posted on various pages and groups. Very cool!

 Not sure if I ever saw you guys (unknowingly) around the city :anonymous:

Doubt it. I take the train downtown and my Tacoma rarely leaves the suburbs, and you would know if you saw my white, SAS on 37s, beat up first gen.

Why not just get a ground tent if air flow and space are at a premium? Sounds like you aren’t that happy with the RTT being on the truck while you are wheeling

I possess no shame. Also now the secret’s put that I have a life away from the Tacoma.

Often how I feel about RTT’s
