It’s hit or miss if I do actually go do this. Usually it’s because my wife wants to go out and get cheap or free food :p I generally don’t like doing it because I don’t like people knowing I’m in the service. Not because I’m not proud but the way the world is going I prefer to keep that on the down low.

They need to put those tire spikes on all permitted parking. If you have the credentials, the spikes drop via card reader or similar.

I’m a disabled Vet too. What’s makes me so mad is when I see a car parked in the handicap spot and there is an old man on oxygen sitting in the car. You know he is the one who has the handicap but the grandson or daughter is inside shopping. This is against the law!!!

To all the vets Thank You for your service. Be proud. I'm from the era of the Vietnam war, at least your not being spot on. Thank you again for your service. Happy Veterans Day

We went to visit my daughter and stayed in a hotel where they had a veteran parking spot by the front door. I didn't want to park there but the wife insisted we could since I was entitled. I only stayed long enough to register then moved the car. she always wants me to get discounts at lowes and other places when they're offered or stand and be recognized at public events. I've just never been comfortable with it. I've never asked for any bennifits but now that my working days may be shortened due to a dissability I may finally go to the VA. See, I was lucky, yes I served our country and was proud to do so. I was in during the first Lybian "conflict" but was never put in harms way. I know I'm probably wrong but to me these bennifits are for my heroes, the combat veterans, you are the ones I salute, respect, and honor. :oldglory:

Feel the same way. Just started my 2nd term and I haven’t gone anywhere and feel like I haven’t earned the right to be called a hero or take these bennifits. I think my old COL. explained it best though. Those benefits, discounts, thank your for your services etc. aren’t always meant for you. But for your fallen comrades and that we should except them and be thankful in their honor since they gave the ultimate sacrifice and would want you to have them.

Or at least that’s what’s always made me feel a little better about it.

Several years ago I took my WWII / Korean veteran Father to get us a free meal. a lot of people wanted to talk to him and ask questions. He got frustrated and told me he did not want to do that anymore.

I would respect his wishes, but honestly I’d be one of the people wanting to talk to him.

Very cool. And well deserved. It would piss my off to no end someone taking those spots who are not deserving.

I understand. I bugged my Grandfather for WW2 stories until he said enough. I was just a kid and he was good with it but I understand now. He transported high ranking WW2 officers from the front lines to their holding facilities. Great stories but you could tell it wore on him.
