    what does it mean code P1783, i have driven alot today and got this code while on the highway pulled over read and cleared code then continued no problems since, ive found online its either 4wd posision sensor or tranny overheated or P&N switch failure but no definate answer


    its an 02 tacoma 4x4 with a fubarred front differential and front driveshaft (long story)

    Thats a high tranny fluid temp code.....IIRC. It could be the sensor. How long has it been since you changed the fluid?

    cleaned off with brake cleaner and whiped down with lint free rag

    was when i filled it and no leaks, ill check when i get dressed.



    could it be it overheated temporarily, i had a 7 hour trip earlier, stopped for 5 hours then proceded on a 4 hour trip

    i pulled over read and cleared the code, nothing since, no shifting problems ect

    Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
    That's for the PNP switch on the side of the tranny. It will not affect drive-ability. The only issue you MAY have would be it may not start. I have fixed one of these on my dad's jeep Cherokee by dismantling it, cleaning the contacts and then applying some electrical grease to the contacts.

    I’m having this code pop up on my 02 rwd as well. I don’t have overdrive at all and have exercised almost every avenue possible that I know how to. I’ve read over an over the ect manual that gear cruncher emailed me tip toed threw what could possibly cause a tranny to not shift into overdrive.
