I remember that one that hit quebec. Cause we felt it here in Ontario. Whole east coast for that matter was down.
I worked on a hydro project a few years back and was told about how theres one or two transformers that do the whole province.

I wonder how it would impact a solar/wind set up though. I know when I'm done with how I want to build my cottage I will be pretty much all off grid.

The hills are safe if you want to just make a friendly escape, but if you have rob and murder plans of any kind, best stay in the city cuz you'll get snuffed out in minutes in the hills.
City people are there for a reason, because they're weak and need safety in numbers but you better have Guns & Ammo and be prepared when the mob shows up at your door. Much better chance of living in the hills.

I found an actual EMP test that was performed by the EMP Commission

We tested a sample of 37 cars in an EMP simulation laboratory, with automobile vintages ranging from 1986 through 2002. Automobiles of these vintages include extensive
electronics and represent a significant fraction of automobiles on the road today. The testing was conducted by exposing running and non-running automobiles to sequentially
increasing EMP field intensities. If anomalous response (either temporary or permanent)was observed, the testing of that particular automobile was stopped. If no anomalous
response was observed, the testing was continued up to the field intensity limits of the simulation capability (approximately 50 kV/m).

Automobiles were subjected to EMP environments under both engine turned off and engine turned on conditions. No effects were subsequently observed in those automobiles
that were not turned on during EMP exposure. The most serious effect observed on running automobiles was that the motors in three cars stopped at field strengths of approximately
30 kV/m or above. In an actual EMP exposure, these vehicles would glide to a stop and require the driver to restart them. Electronics in the dashboard of one automobile
were damaged and required repair. Other effects were relatively minor. Twenty five automobiles exhibited malfunctions that could be considered only a nuisance (e.g.,
blinking dashboard lights) and did not require driver intervention to correct. Eight of the 37 cars tested did not exhibit any anomalous response.

Based on these test results, we expect few automobile effects at EMP field levels below 25 kV/m. Approximately 10 percent or more of the automobiles exposed to higher field
levels may experience serious EMP effects, including engine stall, that require driver intervention to correct. We further expect that at least two out of three automobiles on the
road will manifest some nuisance response at these higher field levels. The serious malfunctions could trigger car crashes on U.S. highways; the nuisance malfunctions could
exacerbate this condition. The ultimate result of automobile EMP exposure could be triggered crashes that damage many more vehicles than are damaged by the EMP, the consequent
loss of life, and multiple injuries.

What... The... Eff?! Have you not heard of the spoiler tag? I started reading it last night and got to the point where he had acquired the meds and made it back to his house. I was hopeful damn it!

 

I think we could use one of those. Apart from the starving people, the restart button on tech would be nice.

 

This, my closest neighbor is a 1/4 acre away. I lived in the City for most of my life. Got so damm tried of all the shit. Moved away from all that mess. It's just a matter of time when it all comes tumbling down. Nothing wrong with wanting to protect your family and being able to ride out the storm.

I'm in the same boat, but I live in the burbs and I don't hunt so it doesn't really make much practical sense for me to have 500+ yard guns.

 

We're social beings. The people who will survive are the ones that band together as a community, not the ones who hole up in their prepping shelters.

 

That, or more rather, they just about don't run on anything at all. "POS making me late for the effing convoy, again Somebody wanna DX this bitch already???" And soon there was a glut of deuces at DRMO.

My money is on the ones that know how to grow a garden, hunt, butcher and be good at it. The ones that don't know how to survive on their own will have to have something the survivors want to trade them for food or be able to take it by force... which is a short term win/long term loss. Killing off the ones that know how to do that will eventually leave no one left that knows how to do these things.

Millions of people banding together in population centers won't be able to do anything besides consume massive amounts of supplies... and if food stops traveling from rural areas to heavily populated areas that isn't going to work out well.
