It's all about being use to it. Come winter I got layers on layer on bibs. I get so use to it when I go home and shower and head out in regular clothes I feel under dressed. On top of dealing with the temps and weather conditions, I actually work for an underground utility so we also have to contend with the frost line and frozen ground.

What's this cold and working outside thing? Is that when I walk from my car to my office building?

The 2wd driveshaft is not the same length from what I've read.

I doubt it. Measure center to center I’m sure it’s longer for the 2wd.

@Lux when I used to drive the garbage truck even tho I was in and out side of the truck which mind you my truck had no heat but I never wore gloves either I can't function in them. Just get use to the weather after awhile. It's all about layers of clothing u wear

It won't work. On the 4x2 trucks the transmission side is splined and that is the slip joint and the second half is solid where on our 4x4 shafts the shaft bolts to a flange on the transfer case and the slip joint is on the second part of the shaft. Also even if it were the same style the shaft would be the length of the transfer case longer than ours

Some tailhousings are really long in 2wd trucks and the 2wd and 4wd trucks have the same rear driveshaft. Early 70s Chevy for example. But not any Toyotas that I know of.

Yea fords had long and short tail housings aswell but even if the length was the same the style of shaft itself is different between 2 and 4 wheel drive Toyotas. If he didn't live so dame far away I know where he could get one to borrow until he found one:spy:

Btw @stairgod did you every get that one driveshaft of yours retubed? I was talking to someone the other day about that and they were told by axle exchange they don't retube anymore so he had to have a whole new shaft made. He's not super mechanic savvy though so they might have given him the run around

I may know a guy that has retubed a drive shaft or two in his day:spy: I never I mean he never balanced them though but only one ever had a slight shimmy between 60-62 mph the others could have been out of balance but they went into truck with huge lifts and huge tires so everything rattled and vibrated

The hardest part is cutting the ends off. They are actually a cup that fits into the end of the toob. You have to cut the weld without cutting the cup and it has to be perfectly square. Then put them in the new tube, make sure the u joints are timed correctly and weld the ends one with one hot, continuous weld. I never had anything balance honestly because I always thought it would be weird going to a drive shaft shop and having them work on something they didn't make. Like the old saying you don't bring your own eggs to a diner.
