We'll jump that bridge when we get there. If a new coil pack doesn't fix it, then just reply on here and we'll see what we can do. Cylinder specific misfires are much more forgiving than just random misfires, so I really think that this is a textbook failed coil pack issue.

Could be the head gasket as 05 - 06 have that issue because of a poorly designed head gasket. The breach is between cylinders 5 and 6, but symptoms usually start with a misfire code for one of those cylinders. One crazy thing though is that the cylinders will still pass a pressure test. Have to check with a exhaust fumes in coolant test (not sure exactly what that test is called). Do you have any gurgling during startup and loss of coolant from the reservoir with no visible leaks?

Yeah that'd be terrible... Let's hope it isn't that. I just finished doing my girlfriends HG on her Subaru and I'm pretty tapped out on those... No gurgling during startup and no loss of coolant (that I've noticed).

Well I went ahead and put a new coil pack on Cylinder 6. Ordered an Ultragauge MX and that should be here by the end of the week. Fingers crossed that'll take care of it!

Well it’s back on. Not flashing just a solid PO306 for cylinder 6 misfire. I’m going to assume this isn’t good enough to drive 70 mile round trip to work tomorrow.

Yeah I’ll put it but I literally replaced them on the last day of July. I highly doubt the spark plugs are bad... are you thinking to check if there is oil etc?

Hopefully you'll find oil and it's a valve cover job...but that might be wishful thinking...

OP did you replace with OEM plugs? (Either the Denso's or NGK's)

Yes I did. Just checked coolant real quick before heading to work and it looks empty. Definitely fearing the worse here. The coolant was flushed less than 10k miles ago

A cylinder leak down test will show you if it's internal. A compression check might show, but the leak down is more accurate. Too bad you live at the bottom of the state.

more so to visually look at the plug. if waters hitting it you can tell. or if you get lucky its just a bad plug. I would also look at the underside of the oil cap to make sure you dont see a milkshake.

Yeah definitely a huge bummer if that's the case... I just finished doing the headgasket on my girlfriends Subaru and don't think I have the space/time to do mine.

So how would I verify that the head gasket is indeed the culprit? The coolant is empty (and I don't see anywhere where it's been leaking). No milkshake on oil cap. Leakdown test? I'll pull the plug tomorrow. Maybe I just need another plug (wishful thinking).
