There's always the old school method of paying attention to your surroundings when driving instead of depending on technology to keep you safe.

First thing I did on my 2016 with BSM and back up sensors was disable them. Useless tech IMO. If people would just learn situational awareness, we wouldn't have all this shit in these trucks to keep the "sheep" safe.

I think the big issue will be the mods and insurance. To get around it, the mod companies will put a disclaimer, off road use only, etc. Or they can be held responsible. Only time will tell.

I own an Evo so I'm long gone off the line vs. a Supra. Can't beat that AWD.

On the Tundra forums there are people who have already lifted '18 Tundras and there does not appear to be any issues, everything functions as it did before the lift and larger tires.

Not a heavy modder(yet?), but this is the big reason I wanted the SR5. I like me backup camera and touch screen, but I really wanted to limit the amount of things that could break over time.

Is this the new standard that all vehicles have to have from 2018? If so then every vehicle will have it. Not sure tho

    More likely it's dealership mis-information.

If you're driving in the woods how the hell would it differentiate between a tree, a pedestrian, a rock or steep hill. I think it can be disabled just like the backup warning can.

An "off road" vehicle with that sensor stuff is plain dumb anyway. I've been in a Subaru with the automatic braking feature. We couldn't back the damned thing up in a small swale because it kept applying the brakes to avoid "hitting" the other side. Trying to turn around on a tight trail with trees would suck too.

Agreed. Most likely misinformation. Think Toyota would be shooting themselves in the foot. Especially when you market a vehicle that can "go anywhere." Time will tell.

My wife's '16 Rav4 has TSS-P and we recently had to replace the windshield because a homeless guy threw a rock at her. We were warned that the dealer might have to recalibrate the front facing camera mounted to the windshield since it also had to be replaced but we didn't. Not sure if this is of any use to this discussion but in my experience, Toyota tries to make vehicles that are resilient. I'm sure, like others have said, that if you lift it real high (6+") then you might have problems but developing a system that can get thrown off by a few inches would be a nightmare for a global company...or at least I would think so. Even different package options of the same model can change the ride height of vehicles from the factory. Surely they wouldn't engineer a product that would require so much additional work on the assembly line and from their programmers.

But Toyota is also not a fan of their customers modifying their vehicles so who knows...

My "guesses" based on our 15 Subaru with Eyesight system.

    1. if lifted -- aiming of the sensors would need to be re-done.
    2. You Will be able to turn the CC back to a "normal" mode.
    3. The calibration feature -would be you taking it in to somewhere to get it reset to your new height.
    4. I would think the lift would have to be within the "range" of the sensors adjustment.

Think about it -- Toyota knows darn well that people like to modify the heck out of this truck -- this is probably what has delayed its intro --Toyota is trying to predict how owners might screw the new safety system up, and what they can do about it when that happens!

If YOU have not driven/owned one of these newer cars with the safety systems on it --YOU are woefully underqualified to preach about it!
Yes they may loose some, but not in the numbers you think. Especially once the "people realize that virtually ALL manufacturers are going in the safety systems direction. In other words in 4-5 years you will not be able to buy a NEW car in the US without the extra safety systems on them.
Better take good care of your used cars while you got-em!

Real talk, when can you build these stupid 2018's on the website? I've called toyota a few times on it and they have no idea.

    differential drop kit...
    carrier bearing drop kit...
    radar drop kit?

Seriously, if the radar won't work if you lift the truck, it probably won't work when you load up the bed either.
