What kind of discount should I try for on the last remaining 2017 4cyl 4x4 SR 5 speed manuals?

It's the end of an era. Forever. The last of the remaining 2017 4cyl 4x4 SR 5 speed manuals are now arriving at dealerships (in central California at least) and no more will be built for the 2018 model year.

Should I try for $3,000 off MSRP or do you think the dealerships will show me the door if I don't agree to a price only $500 - $1,000 off MSRP? Thanks.

I'd be shocked if you got 3k. But maybe I just don't know shit. I got 1k and felt I did good.

Question is, what's it worth to you? It's pretty much a niche product for a very small market audience. Pricing is all over the place for those type of products. If you really want it, I would go in and offer whatever you feel is fair, and be ready to take the hit and pay full MSRP. Looking over long term ownership, $2k is nothing.

Make them feel like you are doing them a favor to take one off their hands. The very last one will most probably have a premium attached to it.

BTW take a look at the SR5's and play off that pricepoint as well. I went into the dealership in November of last year hell bent on an SR and walked out with an SR5. I knew I wanted a 4 cylinder engine and, for me, automatic tranny was a requirement.

    Happy hunting and good luck.

Just pay what they want and get it. The Toyota manuals are worth it. If you don’t, you’ll end up rethinking it forever

Yup we barely haggled on ours. Was the only one in MGM on the west coast just about. They knew we wanted it and so did we.
27k otd with only the convenience package added. No regrets.

    I'm in this dilemma.

    Good question

It would be so much easier if they made more of these. They're kind of hard to find. I wish it was as easy as convincing them to let me take it off their hands. If there was one sitting on the lot and I didn't live 200+ miles away maybe I could work a deal. Even then the best I could possibly get was 1000 off msrp. I'd jump on 3000 off. Maybe it's worth it to pay full price for one of the last ones made? I bet 20 years from now I'd say so

This still sounds much lower than what I'm seeing. With convenience package, otd was 29 something at best. Damn. I'm in California...

Is this one of those OTD meaning issues? Was your price really 27 with taxes and all? In California??

Agreed. A dealer should be more inclined to get rid of a trim that they have a larger inventory of.

I got $1,500 off my 16', same spec. Most people don't drive manuals in the Bay Area. It's going to be a rainy weekend so you might have luck. I wouldn't expect you get much more than $1,500 off. Mine was 24.4 before tax and everyting.

This is how I think about it. Even if you had to pay the 3 grand you wanted to get off, in the long run isn’t it worth it just to get what you want? Life is short man, that three grand means nothing in the scheme of things. If you’re financing it’s roughly 60 bucks a month more. 15 bucks a week is nothing. I’d rather be happy and get what I want than regret it later.

Got about 1500 off myself. At this point, you might have to pay MSRP.

3k seems insane, but that shouldn't stop you from trying.

When I got mine last year it was on black friday. I thought it would work in my favor but it really didn't...it was just a zoo. The busiest it's ever been since. My thought was that it's the end of the month AND black friday...I should be able to name my price. Wrong.

It was so friggin busy that day that it wouldn't surprise me if there were people "paid" to be customers to make it look busy. I've heard from a dealership finance friend of mine that this is a real tactic that is done to boost sales at slow dealerships.

It's probably best to go before black friday so you can get first dibs on the remaining SR's.

I've gotten some good deals just after Xmas. Dealerships are like mortuaries. No one in there. You do risk them selling out of the model you want (in this case, the SR) from the holiday feeding frenzy. Again, what's it worth to you?

I got mine for $29,000 OTD, in New York. The dealer was only getting one in and I knew I had to have it. He knew it too, so price was firmer than I initially expected. Once they are gone, they are gone. Besides, who can put a price on history? :p
