TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Eh, I had a $100 gift certificate so I got a URD fuel pump kit, comes with the pump and a remote filter. I guess the intent is to not run a filter in the tank at all? Seems like that wouldn't be great for the pump, but pumps are cheaper than sets of injectors I guess.

 

It's a horrible idea to not run a filter pre- pump. You will severely shorten it's life expectancy in doing so. I would rather replace none of the above. Lol. All systems prior to the newer ones only running a strainer set up alone ran a strainer and an external fuel filter. Of course manufacturers saw the redundancy of running an external fuel filter and just switched out to a simple strainer set up alone

 

Yeah, I'm sure I'm already shortening lifespans running the wrong pump for the fuel I have, but meh. I'm still in the mindset of the euro performance guys. To run E85 in my S4 I'd need twin 400s and a surge tank. Having to replace a pump every so often is cake compared to that nonsense.

 

The factory system has a strainer (sock) and fuel filter (post pump). Just internal and non serviceable.

A fuel filter is an absolute must. External is just easier to replace, and serviceable.

No filter would mean we live in a perfect world because all of the fueling stations have perfectly clean fuel. That injectors will never get clogged and have reduced efficiency/atomization.

Use the external filter and save your boosted engine from unnecessary fueling issues.

Here's my stupercharged Tacocat from a few years ago.

 

I know a guy that knows this guy. I heard these guys have an inside sorcerer that knows things.

 

27k on mine when I changed the pump. Sock was pretty filthy. Happy to have easy access to change the filter.

I even set it up with a nice bracket with nutserts into the cab reinforcement and plumbed it with Russell fittings.
